We got to my parents house in NJ and found my brother all excited after months of (f)unemployment to finally be able to show proof of gainful employment by busting out one of his brand new business cards that announce him as a consultant for Ascenture. (Check out how happy my Mom is! No more hand outs! No more hand outs!) If you've been reading my site for a while, you know that anytime I'm visiting my family in New Jersey for a holiday, there's always one thing that needs to be done...
...stole this stuffed squirrel that was tied to a homeless man's abandoned shopping cart on my block that we'd passed earlier in the day and laughed at. Weed and a Squirrel down the street!
On Thursday night I hopped in my (hot Nissan Sentra) rental and headed over to the Oakland airport to pick Leigh up. Awwww! Who's that who's happy to see me? Ummm, it's the Tinny!
Before being hired by AdBrite, I'd been using their service to sell advertising on this site - on Thursday morning, I received my very first paycheck for all the ads that had been bought! Wooooo!
Then this random British guy (who apparently lives in the building nextdoor to me on Bowery) showed up and wanted to get in on the action all "party boy" style. Nice!
In a totally crazy coincidence, later that night we ran into Steve Haise who is hands down the BIGGEST Van Halen fan we know (and maybe even in the world). He almost creamed himself when he heard where we'd been earlier that night.
We got to the building in question and fucked around pressing all the apartment buzzers until someone finally buzzed us in (Holly Golightly style, boyeeee). We weren't positive the intelligence we'd gotten was accurate until we got into the lobby and saw this sticker on one of the mailboxes (I shit you not!). He even calls himself DLR. Fucking amazing.
After a few knocks, it was clear that no one was going to answer. We figured that maybe everyone was out on the balcony deck with DLR and they couldn't hear us. We decided to head up to the roof and see if we'd be able to get a vantage point of the party from there.
