The December Roundup

Here are all the photos I took in December 2010 that didn't end up in their own entry.

Wednesday, December 1st

patrick k
Patrick's face says it all. Our three-man team had a long day at the office putting final touches on a prototype. T-minus two working days until launch.

Thursday, December 2nd

hanukah, meredith
On Thursday night, Mer and I went up to her parent's apartment to celebrate Hanukah.
cooper, hanukah
Cooper with his first night of presents!

Friday, December 3rd

Walked home from work through Stuyvesant Town and admired all the holiday lights in the oval.
Bought Call of Duty Black Ops on the way home. Not only are video games disturbing realistic these days...
...they also have all sorts of digital cameos by actual historical people. Mind bending.

Saturday, December 4th

I spent Saturday morning working on my continued quest to declutter and get rid of things that I have squirreled away that I should just part with. But not before taking a photo of them! 2nd-gen iPod (the very first one they made that had a touchscreen wheel instead of an actual wheel!) and and old LG clamshell cell phone!
doug
One of Doug's old band's from San Diego days: Track list: Talking to Myself. March of the Zebras. Follow Your Horse. All Right. Carousel of Heavy Animals. Sally the Sea Serpent & Her Eternal Liquid Youth. Daze. Love is a Beautiful Game. Fears. My Road...
A weird birthday card from my aunt. I love getting birthday cards, but feel bad throwing them out. How long are you supposed to hang on to them anyway?
A couple of months before my birthday, my grandmother (mom's mom) told a story at dinner about how she was really strict when my parents were dating and so they all called her "The Warden." I thought this was really funny - something she remembered when she sent me a birthday card!
An unredeemed (and expired!) prize for some free bowling that our team received for winning 3rd place at Andrew's AMAZING 2nd annual birthday scavenger hunt back in 2008.
I also finally decided to part with some of the senior-year presentations I had to put together in college.
Look at the size of this thing!
I'm really proud of all the hard work I put into it...
...but man, oh man is it a relic of totally non-useful information. Here's an example of the media plan we had to put together for Nordstrom using the latest cutting edge media planning software...
...that 1996 had to offer!
Ok, got that? Here's your diploma!
Presentation on rebranding Fresca for Carla Lloyd's 1995 advertising class!
Also from that era, a CD-ROM computer game!
After cleaning out my office and getting rid of a bunch of stuff, I made a trip over to home depot to pick up some rolling casters...
...and convert a big file drawer that I have into a ROLLING file drawer.
TA-DA!
For dinner, Meredith made all kinds of delicious wrappery-thingies!

Sunday, December 5th

me, meredith
On Sunday, Meredith and I...
mark holmes, matt, meredith
...went to brunch welcoming Matt back into town after tour! (I think).
david k, lord alfred
Later that evening, I stopped by David's apartment and admired his MASSIVE tree selection. Haha.

Alfred & David.

Later that evening, we met up with Matt again and went to L'asso where we got DESSERT pizza after our regular pizza! Nutella and marshmallow, yes!

Wednesday, December 8th

mark d
On Wednesday afternoon, we had our first few customers successfully use our prototype. Developers tend to be pretty stoic...
me
...but it was kind of a big deal at the time. Haha.

Thursday, December 9th

I was feeling a little run down on Thursday so I decided to take a day off from work. (Not much to do while waiting for user-feedback to rack up over the next few days)
I sat on the radiator and watched a man driving a yellow robot dig a trench. He smoked cigarettes the whole time!
maddy
Some time the heat's not enough and you have to build a pillow-fort around it in order to stop the shivering. Haha.
My xbox stopped working so I went out and got a refurbished one down the street. What's a sick day without a little xbox?
I took the old one apart and dicked around with the insides for an hour or so and then lost interest and put it aside. You know, for later.
me, meredith
Meredith knows that later could mean months later and gave me the stink-eye until I packed up my mess...
...and moved it into my office with my other messes.
maddy
Maddie graduated from pillow-fortress to what we call her "Russian Princess Cape." Clearly a gift from Ellen.
Mario Cart and...
leigh
...cakes from Atlas Cafe. Yes!
Later that night I used an adapter I'd recently purchased to copy all the data off a bunch of IDEs I had laying around. (Oh, the things we do to keep our data around).

Saturday, December 11th

meredith
On Saturday Mer and I went to Kate's Joint. (Man, I really miss that place for veggie breakfast).
Tofu scramble.
maddy
On the way home, we picked up a rawhide BONE WREATH for this little monster.
maddy
Maddy pretty much eats her weight in rawhide every week.

Wednesday, December 15th

Meredith is a holiday cookie-making MACHINE!

Thursday, December 16th

Emo Vin checks in again!

Friday, December 17th

ellen
On Friday night Ellen came over showing off a fancy new coat.

Admiring our dog collection with hot chocolate.
ellen, meredith
Ellen & Mer got al dressed up and went out to a restaurant opening in our neighborhood.
piper
After they got back later that evening, we watched Stefon SNL clips and gorged ourselves on COOKIES! (Peanut butter cookies with a Hershey kiss on top are my FAVORITE!)
computer ˆ cookie ˆ snl ˆ tv ˆ piper
After everyone else went to bed, I stayed up until the wee hours of the morning watching MOST of this show. Haha.

Sunday, December 19th

fatty, henry, marina, meredith
On Sunday we headed out to Brooklyn to see Marina and Dave and meet two-week old Henry for the first time!
fatty, henry, marina
Dave even took the time to dress Henry up in a Nasty Magic onesie!
fatty, henry
(Clearly has no idea what he's doing.)
henry
Nice to meet you, Henry!
ellen, meredith
Later that evening, Ellen came over to hang and this time...
me
...she came bearing gifts! Ellen is an EXPERT present-selector.

I got memory foam-lined slippers! It's like your feet are getting a hug.

meredith
Meredith got a special cake mix...
ellen, maddy, meredith
...and cake mold that lets you make a GIANT COOKIE CAKE. Haha.
matt, meredith
Matt came over later on in the evening and at 2am...
...we discovered that Police Academy had recently been added to Netflix. TACKLEBERRY!
maddy, meredith
Look at this little back-snoozing, son-of-a-bitch.
maddy, meredith
I want to smash her speckly body so hard.

Quiet night at home

Tuesday, December 21st

carol, cynthia
On Tuesday night I was summoned downtown to Winnie's...
carol, cynthia
...for some karaoke!
carol, cynthia
Haha.
It'd been a while.

Wednesday, December 22nd

dens
On Wednesday morning I walked into work and saw this guy staring at my from the magazine rack in Yodle's lobby! Congrats, Dens!
michael leviton
Later that evening I went out to Brooklyn to hang out with Michael Leviton
House of mirrors. I showed him how to use the white balance on his new camera.
michael leviton
Other topics of conversation of the evening include our favorite internet release of isolated vocal tracks of classic records (1984, Gimme Shelter), Nine Stories and it's coded references to CIA-related mind control, Kubrick and sex magick rituals. Oh, and the qualia of sound versus visual experience. Haha.
Just when you think you've had all the treats there are to have, you stop in a bodega and see they've invented a brand new treat.
I came home to find Meredith hard at work on lesson plans to teach kids the fundamentals of computer programming using MIT's SCRATCH programming language!

Thursday, December 23rd

maddy
Mer spent Thursday busy baking up another batch of cookies to give to my parents! Maddy likes.
I spent the day gorging myself on said holiday cookies and working on a new CSS template for this site!
I designed the new look in Photoshop, and then once I had something I liked, I spend a bunch of time trying to relearn CSS (shit keeps changing and it's harder and harder to keep up!) and make my code match my design. (Remember for years and years my site used to look like this?)
Back at the end of November, I did a photo shoot for Ellen & Emily's equestrian clothing company. I spent Thursday night taking the edits from the shoot and laying them out into a mini-booklet "hang-tag" to be affixed to each shirt! Design in progress.
After laying out all the PDFs, I printed mini-versions and assembled them at home to make sure Ellen & Emily liked them before sending them off to the printer!
Ready for your approval.

Wednesday, December 29th

We got piled with snow on our very last day in NYC before our trip down to Florida for New Year's Eve!

ha, I went to winnie's two nights in a row when I visited during May. I had emailed you asking for karaoke recommendations and wound up at a place I assume you must've have frequented in the past more than this one time. not the most ideal place for karaoke but I guess it wasn't so bad.
