far rockaway

far rockaway
...and Mandy and her friend came out too!
far rockaway
Leigh and Geordon came out to meet us.
far rockaway
The beach!
far rockaway
View of the ocean from the subway platform.
far rockaway
The beach wasn't too crowded!
far rockaway
We called Pauly and Lisa to meet up with them and found out that they were 30 blocks away. But it's always nice to walk the boardwalk, so we hoofer over to meet them.
far rockaway
We got off at our normal stop in Far Rockaway...
far rockaway
Later that afternoon we took the A train to Beach 67th Street. Far Rockaway Beach!
far rockaway
7 out of 10!
far rockaway
A couple minutes later, the rest of our group returned from a walk and decided to get in the mix. Going for 10!
far rockaway
5 out of 7! Getting there!
far rockaway
3 out of 7. 300% improvement!
far rockaway
The larger your group is, the more difficult it is to capture everyone's feet in the air when you're taking a jumping photo. 1 out of 7 = FAIL!
far rockaway
As we stood there debating, the waves kept getting bigger and bigger. Check out the size of the curl!
far rockaway
Insanity.
far rockaway
In waves were crashing so violently and the undertow was so strong that everyone swimming ended up clearing out.
far rockaway
I think this is about as far in to the water as any of us went.
far rockaway
Oh, summer.
far rockaway
We walked down to the water to check out the absolutely massive (for NYC) waves that were starting to break.
far rockaway
Check out the curl and spray!
far rockaway
Debating whether or not to do in.
far rockaway
Oh man. Every summer comes to an end. September sneaks up on you and you need to fight fall off a little bit longer with as many more trips to the beach as you can get in before the weather turns!
far rockaway
Mandy and Brother Lawrence.
far rockaway
We rounded up a massive crew and all went to Far Rockaway to enjoy the lovely late summer weather. Catrinel looking summery.
far rockaway
Awesome, blacked-out A-Team style van that's always parked right by the boardwalk.
far rockaway
We headed back home around 4:30.
far rockaway
Take three! If you squint, it looks like they're spelling out S-H-I-T!
far rockaway
Take two.
far rockaway
Beach Jump!
far rockaway
Take Four is my favorite! Everyone's doing their own thing.
far rockaway
Take Three! Meredith got tangled up in her cape. Haha.
far rockaway
Got your cape all tied on? Good! It's time for....
far rockaway
Take Two. Total FAIL. But check out Gurj almost perfectly miming her exact pose and expression as the first take!
far rockaway
....obligatory photos of everyone jumping at the beach! Yay! Take One: Gurj, Scott and Amanda have amazing form in this pic. Sarah, however, failed to achieve lift off.
far rockaway
At the beach we met up with Amanda and Scott!
far rockaway
...but ended after 20 minutes of drizzling with no sign of blue skies in sight, we decided to call it a day...
far rockaway
On Saturday, a whole bunch of us went back out to Far Rockaway for a beach day...
far rockaway
...but it started raining after we'd only been there for 30 minutes!
far rockaway
We tried waiting it out on the boardwalk...
far rockaway
Elevated subway.
far rockaway
Just me?
far rockaway
Anyone else recognize this road from driving on it in Grand Theft Auto 4?
far rockaway
Heading back to the subway.
far rockaway
Usually we go to the western, more deserted part of Rockaway Beach, but this time we went to the main beach so that Pauly could surf.
far rockaway
The lovely boardwalk.
far rockaway
Handsome beach kids.
far rockaway
The next morning, Nina and I got up super-early and took the A train out to Far Rockaway.
far rockaway
It was completely and totally deserted and it was AWESOME. Crazy that this is beach is a 45-minute, $2-dollar subway ride away from Manhattan, right?
far rockaway
I entertained myself by throwing carrots and watching the seagulls viciously fight over them, only for the winning bird to pick it up every time and realize that it wasn't even something good to eat.
far rockaway
Birds + Carrots = Comedy Gold! (Yes, I know that I'm retarded).
far rockaway
These huge military-transport helicopters kept flying back and forth in front of the beach.
far rockaway
On Sunday Meredith and I went out to Far Rockaway to say goodbye to summer! The beach was practically deserted!
far rockaway
We ate fruit.
far rockaway
A little after 4pm, we decided to pack up our beach gear and head back to the subway.
far rockaway
Meredith put on Nina's goggles...
far rockaway
...and we teamed up for this incredibly hot photo. (I don't know if you know this, but I'm going to let you in on a huge secret: WE ARE HUGE FUCKING DORKS.)
far rockaway
I took KT's tiny, velour hoodie and put on a fashion show for Siege. Sassy!
far rockaway
Meredith took a nap of the beach: face down and covered in a towel. Hahaha.
far rockaway
Hahaha.
far rockaway
After the wind had dried my hair into a salty mess, Meredith snapped some sweet pics of my beach hair!
far rockaway
We came back from our swim to find Siege, KT and Mer in the midst of a heated game of beach Scrabble.
far rockaway
Floatin'.
far rockaway
I swam way out and took a bunch of pics. I love the fluffy clouds behind the buildings.
far rockaway
I had brought my waterproof camera case so I decided to go for a swim and take some pics! Nina came with me (and if you look closely at the right-hand side of the pic, you can see her pointing her toes and doing one of her famous "I was a former synchronized swimmer" moves). Hahah.
far rockaway
Perfect beach weather.
far rockaway
Great success! We arrived at the beach a little after 2pm and managed to find Nina and KT!
far rockaway
The post-procedural patient. Hahaha. Meredith had read that if the whack was successful and the cyst had been ruptured, it would take a few days to for it to go away. Nothing to do but wait! (Spoiler: the cyst didn't go away).
far rockaway
Meredith, Nina and KT.
far rockaway
Siege was on the scene taking pics of the ladies.
far rockaway
"....3!" WHAM! Nina didn't hold back AT ALL! (BTW, check out Nina's face, you can totally tell how much effort she put into her swing! Hahaha).
far rockaway
Here's Nina taking a few practice swings to line up her shot. "Ready? 1...2...."
far rockaway
Hahahah. And then he took this amazing photo of us jumping! (Meredith looks like a frog!)
far rockaway
And Siege snapped a few funny pics of Mer and I goofing around on the beach with his fancy cam. (Thanks for sending these over, Siege!). Here's our impression of that old Coppertone advertisement where a little dog is tugging at a girl's bathing suit.
far rockaway
And see what I mean about the beach? Almost empty!
far rockaway
Oooh-la-la!
far rockaway
At first when you get off the subway, you're like "Uh-oh. I've accidentally traveled into the apocalyptic, trash-strewn future." But then you walk a few blocks and you're like...
far rockaway
Let's hear it for beach hair.
far rockaway
..."Oh, here's the beach."
far rockaway
At the end of Flatbush, you cross the Rockaway bridge and you're almost there.
