a thing in 180 photos rockaway beach Not too shabby. Night walk! Busy day! On Wednesday afternoon, Ellen came out to visit and hit the beach! Ice cream man dessert! Sunset walk with the dog. ...you guessed it! We took the pooch for a nice long beach walk... ...and watched the marvelous sunset. CRABS BEWARE! ...and then we rented bicycles! Meredith had a terrible bike accident when she was a little kid and never really got around to getting back on one so we decided to give it a shot! ...headed down the boardwalk. A little after noon, Meredith and I... On Sunday, Catrinel's friends came out to surf! Lisa & Josh We hit the beach early on Saturday. I got up early on Thursday morning... ...I went back out until the sun went down! Fire sky. Quiet lineup! While strolling around the neighborhood... Sun setting over the garden on our block! ...and watched the surfers for a while. Later that afternoon, I went surfing for a few hours. We went up to the boardwalk, got Thai iced coffees... Cloudwave. Hey, you guys aren't partying down there are you? Took the dog for a long walk near the beach. (No dogs allowed when there's people around) Saturday was another gorgeous day! ...and he and I headed to the beach and had serious life chats. Meredith posing next to our recently-improvised curtains. Periwinkle sky. And because it's right near JFK, there's all these low-flying jets all the time. There was a beautiful sunset almost every night. Maddy is a big fan of her new evening walk routine. Neighborhood exploring. Mer came out and met me later that afternoon. Me, the lifeguard and one other guy. On Thursday I went to the beach by my lonesome. Maddy loves the ocean so much. Watching her run around and chase birds at the water line is so endearing. ...so we decided to go get some food! Empty on a Wednesday. Did a little bit of work in the morning and then around noon... Happy Birthday to me! ...and hit the beach! Maddy loves the boardwalk. ...but then the clouds rolled in and there was thunder. GTFO. Still, awesome beach day! ...we hit the beach for a bit! (Not much going on). After snapping a bunch of photos to show Meredith... The price was right and it was only 1 block from the beach! ...but the inside was in decent shape. Before hanging up any flyers, we went to check out a place (that we ended up taking). The outside was under construction (and continued to be under construction...foreshadowing!).... ...but they're ridable if you've got enough board under you! The waves aren't big... Sexy neck-growth? Then we all walked back towards the subway. Farewell, Rockaway Beach! ...and, uh, inspect over-turned Snapple vending machines that have somehow ended up in the middle of the boardwalk. Ten minutes later, Nina showed up! Nina lives in Brooklyn so she'd headed out separately. ...there was even a grocery run to the (totally scary) local supermarket for snacks... Tinny smoked her little cigarette and practiced looking like an elf while admiring the view. The View. (heh!) ...like oranges! And bananas! Hahaha. Mer was so happy she did a little dance! One block later we were on the beach! Dead End? Yeah, at the beach ! Thirty five minutes later and we'd arrived at 67th Street Station which drops you off two short blocks away from the water! Sean and Meredith raced ahead... ...while Leigh hung back with me and did all sorts of neat flippy hair tricks. It's suntan lotion! I swear! ...swipe it from me just a few minutes later. Yay! Check out that pristine white sand beach! Pretty sweet, eh? A lot of people I know scoff at the thought of New York City beaches, but those people are idiots! How sweet is it that I can hope on the subway, and for $2 be at a place that looks like this in 30 minutes? Fatty taking a picture of me taking a picture of him.
