beach
Nothing makes me happier than taking the subway to the beach.
beach
The tide started coming in around 4:30 and I dug a "preventative trench" to protect our towels from the encroaching seawater.
beach
Lisa and Pauly.
beach
The beach they were at was considerably more crowded!
beach
The beach wasn't too crowded!
beach
We got off at our normal stop in Far Rockaway...
beach
I had to cheat and use the camera to shadow my eyes. Haha.
beach
My eyes are so sensitive to light that it's hard for me to not squint even with my eyes closed!
beach
Later that afternoon we took the A train to Beach 67th Street. Far Rockaway Beach!
beach
Shoes off!
beach
Once more with Bob falling down!
beach
Jump shot!
beach
Sandy dance party.
beach
...which led to a huge impromptu party sesh on the beach!
beach
Yes!
beach
Empty chairs.
beach
The sky was turning into quite the dramatic photo backdrop. I asked the photographer if he'd be willing to take some JUMPING SHOTS of the wedding party and he was more than happy to oblige.
beach
Adorable.
beach
Adding in Sherwin and Maija!
beach
The bride and groom with the parents: Brian & Stephanie and Lee and Diane.
beach
Nick Adams, the wedding photographer they hired, was fantastic.
beach
Our mustachioed father!
beach
Me with the other future-Mrs-Battjer (getting married in 7 months! Eeep!)
beach
Mom with her first married son!
beach
We couldn't have ordered a more-perfect day.
beach
Check out the clouds!
beach
Tom escorting Gram.
beach
Haha. Let's hear it for NEW FRIENDS!
beach
That was the sensible choice. Chris, Steve and I decided to keep on drinking heavily and somehow ended up on the beach partying with the locals we'd met in the bar.
beach
The beach was deserted!

Hardly a soul in either direction.

beach
Ta-da!
beach
Lee walking Amy down the beach-aisle!
beach
With everyone assembled, we headed down to the beach!
beach
The view of the beach from Brett & Amy's porch.
beach
7 out of 10!
beach
A couple minutes later, the rest of our group returned from a walk and decided to get in the mix. Going for 10!
beach
5 out of 7! Getting there!
beach
3 out of 7. 300% improvement!
beach
The larger your group is, the more difficult it is to capture everyone's feet in the air when you're taking a jumping photo. 1 out of 7 = FAIL!
beach
Oh, summer.
beach
We walked down to the water to check out the absolutely massive (for NYC) waves that were starting to break.
beach
Check out the curl and spray!
beach
Oh man. Every summer comes to an end. September sneaks up on you and you need to fight fall off a little bit longer with as many more trips to the beach as you can get in before the weather turns!
beach
Mandy and Brother Lawrence.
beach
We rounded up a massive crew and all went to Far Rockaway to enjoy the lovely late summer weather. Catrinel looking summery.
beach
We headed back home around 4:30.
beach
Take three! If you squint, it looks like they're spelling out S-H-I-T!
beach
Take two.
beach
Beach Jump!
beach
My skin feels like red.
beach
Take Four is my favorite! Everyone's doing their own thing.
beach
Take Three! Meredith got tangled up in her cape. Haha.
beach
Got your cape all tied on? Good! It's time for....
beach
Take Two. Total FAIL. But check out Gurj almost perfectly miming her exact pose and expression as the first take!
beach
....obligatory photos of everyone jumping at the beach! Yay! Take One: Gurj, Scott and Amanda have amazing form in this pic. Sarah, however, failed to achieve lift off.
beach
At the beach we met up with Amanda and Scott!
beach
Getting ready to make a run for it!
beach
The weather held, but about 90 minutes later, thing got DRAMATIC!
beach
It was so nice to have so much space and quiet. Nothing but the sounds of seagulls and waves crashing.
beach
About 40 minutes after we'd arrived, the dark and ominous clouds started rolling in.
beach
By the time we got to the beach it was still sunny, but the clouds were beginning to roll in a bit. Check out how empty the beach was!
beach
On Saturday, a whole bunch of us went back out to Far Rockaway for a beach day...
beach
Usually we go to the western, more deserted part of Rockaway Beach, but this time we went to the main beach so that Pauly could surf.
beach
I tried on his fedora but on my tiny pin-head it ended up looking like a bowler hat that Blossom's friend Sixx would wear.
beach
Handsome beach kids.
beach
The next morning, Nina and I got up super-early and took the A train out to Far Rockaway.
beach
It was completely and totally deserted and it was AWESOME. Crazy that this is beach is a 45-minute, $2-dollar subway ride away from Manhattan, right?
beach
Mohamed kept laughing at my fascination with the camels! But I had never really spent time around them and was really interested in how alien they were to me!
beach
Hahah. After eating and relaxing, and after the intensity of the afternoon soon died down a bit, we went swimming and snorkeling for a few hous.
beach
...and watched more camels go by.
beach
Camel bath.
beach
The beach was lovely but hot! We hid out in the shade, drank tea, ordered light food...
beach
By 7:30pm the sun had already long set and there was a beautiful full moon rising over the Red Sea.
beach
Here's a view of Dahab's pebbly beach!
beach
Climbing up on top of the (very slippery!) jetty.
beach
The sunset was awesome.
beach
Skipping down to the jetty.
beach
Around 4:30, we made our way down onto the beach to watch the amazing winter sunset. Here's Shane, Sylvie and Tim. I love these pics so much!
beach
...and then packed up our stuff and headed to the north side of Koh Samui so that we could catch the high-speed noon ferry to Koh Tao!
beach
On the walk back to our scooter, we took a slightly different path and walked along the beach. It was really pretty.
beach
On Saturday, we hid out reading in our bungalow until after 2pm. Once the sun had dialed down its intensity a bit...
beach
...we hit the beach. Check out my hot-pink sunburned chest. That's what happens when I try to go to the beach before 2pm!
beach
We slept in on Friday morning and woke up to a beautiful afternoon! After a totally ridiculous...
beach
...and proceeded to relax the fuck out of it.
beach
Tragedy averted, we hit the beach....
beach
We got to Long Beach and got all set up on the beach. We spent 15 minutes slathering each other with suntan lotion so that we wouldn't get baked by the Thai sun (you have seen how white the two of us are, right?) and about 10 minutes later, clouds rolled in out of nowhere and it started to rain.
beach
Homestretch! Meredith's carefully making her way over another huge sprawl of slippery rocks and you can see Long Beach in the background.
beach
Walked along the beach to get to the dive shop.
beach
And here's a picture of my armpit thrown in to sex it up a bit.
beach
And here's a better looking view of the beach from the water.
beach
Here's the view of the beach from out in the water.
beach
Apache Bar closed down around 2am and the entire bar headed over to a bar called Hippies has a bar right on the water and was still serving!
beach
See? The water is literally ankle deep and look how far away we are from the shore!
beach
After dropping off our bags, unpacking and a quick nap we headed to a restaurant right on the water...
beach
...of everybody jumping in the air! Hahaha. Too bad the flash blacked-out the hotel in the background. (And I to censor Mer's hoohah!)
beach
VICTORY IS OURS! Faisal was nice enough to take this photo of the four of us together, so I returned the favor by taking a photo...
beach
Me alone in front of the hotel. Hahaha. Right after we took all these photos, Biba yet again raised the stakes and was like "Let's all strip down and go SWIMMING!" I was like "Uh, isn't that a bad idea? First of all, we're drunk in a country that frowns upon drinking, second of all, we're trespassing on a five-star hotel's private beach, and third of all, that sign right there clearly says 'No Swimming,' as if all that weren't bad enough, you want us to strip down in a country that totally frowns upon any type of public nudity?" Then we all started hysterically cackling and throwing off our clothes and running into the water.
beach
After wandering around for like 10 minutes, we finally made it down to the beach...and it was so worth it! It's hard to tell from these photos, but the view of the hotel from the beach was incredible!
beach
I entertained myself by throwing carrots and watching the seagulls viciously fight over them, only for the winning bird to pick it up every time and realize that it wasn't even something good to eat.
