The Soon-to-be Battjers! (I love this pic so much).
nyc
"View of Manhattan skyline!" 5 POINTS!
nyc
The East River seen from the Williamsburg Bridge.
nyc
Sight for sore eyes!
nyc
After traveling for a while, seeing the Manhattan skyline from the BQE is always one of my favorite things!
nyc
Rainy Sunday morning looking for a cab.
nyc
The view of our neighborhood (the Lower East Side and the East Village) while crossing over the Williamsburg Bridge. Almost home!
nyc
Home!
nyc
After stuffing our faces, we hopped in the rental car and headed north on the parkway! We got back to NYC a little before 7pm! Thanks so much for inviting us out, Matt!
nyc
...in time to prevent the fire from spreading. Shit got pretty intense before they managed to put it out.
nyc
I stayed late and danced until way after they were closed and walked home while the sun was coming up.
nyc
After eating, Meredith and Ellen came over to Niki and my new apartment to check out the view from our sick roof deck. Here's Mer and Niki.
nyc
The distant Manhattan skyline always looks so puny in pics taken on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway.
nyc
Then I walked home. The end!
nyc
Check out the rad view of the Empire State Building from Josh's living room window.
nyc
The overnight red-eye from San Francisco to JFK found me on Orchard Street just shy of 6am. Oof.

Check out the sick view of Manhattan from their balcony.
nyc
Flatbush Avenue, baby.
nyc
I wish I'd brought a tripod. The street was really dark and I was shooting with a slow lens and no flash.
nyc
Rachel and Grant were trying to get close to the hydrant, but the pressure was so great neither of them managed to within 20 feet before being knocked over or pushed back.
nyc
Yankee Stadium! Yay, that means we're heading in the right direction. Which means it's time for....
nyc
Shea Stadium (Which if you live in the area you'll know means I totally took a wrong turn off the BQE). Oh, and most of these photos were taken by Siege unless otherwise noted.
nyc
Fatty and Grant went and got Fatty's Ford Probe and arranged to pick me up on the corner of Broome and Broadway on the way towards the tunnel.
nyc
On Wednesday I met up with Nina at "the Cube" in Astor Place to get some lunch.
nyc
New Yawk City!

..."Joey Ramone Place." I love the Ramones, but this was a little much. Rather than get into a rant, instead I kindly point you in the direction of Eric Gillin's most-excellent essay on this.

After eating some delicious giant pineapple, I dedided to do something I'd never done before: explore my neighborhood during a week-day. Here is a random photo of my block.

Later that night, we went for coffee and treats at Ferrara's bakery. What's cuter than Tara in her little heart sweater holding a little I heart NY cake? Farewell, my sweet little faggot! You'd better come visit soon!
nyc
Check it out! Seriously, is there any other place you'd rather spend a sunny Saturday?

...and went up to the Observation Deck. Since deciding to move back to Texas, Tara had written up a "Things To Do Before I Leave New York" list and this was right up there at the top of it. Here's the view to the south.

Tara posing for the obligatory "take my photo with New York in the background" photo.

For lunch on Wednesday, Grant and I decided to explore some of the finer cuisine of the "Feast of San Genaro" street festival. It's the largest, and longest running (the first one was in 1926) annual celebration in NYC. It takes up all of Mulberry street for like, 10 blocks.

All the circuits in the northeast blown....so much like the tiny mind of one Mr. Grant Stoddard who couldn't seem to wrap his little noggin around the situation.

And here's a shot looking north up Broadway. The traffic lights were all out so people were just walking in the street. The amount of noise coming from the street was incredible.
nyc
We decided we'd meet up with Stuart and Jeannette (who live in Hoboken and were coming through the Holland Tunnel) on Canal Street. Here's the entrance of the Manhattan Bridge (two blocks from my apartment) on the walk over.
nyc
The view from out on my bedroom's fire escape.
nyc
Condo's going up down the street. The place is changing fast.
nyc
This photo's called "Taking A Picture While Driving a Motorcycle." Make sure you spend some time appreciating it as it almost cost me my life to take it.
nyc
We didn't know what the fuck was going on. The WTC is like 15 blocks from where I work and I just kept thinking about how it was going to be weird to see the WTC buildings everyday with big holes in them.
nyc
We stood on the roof gawking and trying to make sense of what was happened. A few minutes later, the 2nd tower collapsed. I don't think I could speak for several minutes.
nyc
Mapquest version.
nyc
Then, the first tower collapsed. I couldn't catch my breath. We didn't know what had happened. None of us thought at the time that the plane crash could've caused the building to collapse. We assumed that whoever crashed the plane must've also planted a bomb...which really scared the shit out of us. I remember thinking "Wow. They crashed a plane to get everyone's attention, and then they blew the building up."
