I don't know about where you live but if you want your haircut at 11:30pm in my neighborhood, it's like no problem. Monday was a little cloudy and overcast. In the afternoon we went over to Matt's apartment to hang out on his roof. The neighborhood was practically empty at night! I <3 NY. Wading our way back home through the street fair! On Saturday I was in the Flatiron area to pick a few things for Valentine's day. It snowed overnight and the trees were dusted in white. I didn't even know this place even closed! Things get literal on the LES/Chinatown border. Haha. Later that night we walked through the sleeting night... We walked down the street for some post-dinner gelato... Quiet East Village. Happy 2010 ! I got up a little after noon to take the dog for a walk. The streets felt deserted.By 10pm that night, I was headed home! Coming into NYC. We made it in the air just in time to watch the last of the sunlight break through the clouds and bathe NYC in peach light. The streets in NYC felt like they were a hundred yards wide after the narrow streets in Bali. Home! Roof. We went to some party on the top floor of the hotel on Rivington. The northern view from the roof deck is really beautiful. Went to get treats on Sunday morning and saw a rainy accident on Ave B & 14th. I can see our own pool-less roof from here! And a god-damn pool! Beautiful views of the city... ...and went up to his ridiculous roof. See you tomorrow night. Central park looks like aliens showed up and airlifted a huge chunk right out of the middle of the city. I know this is dumb, but somehow it's always shocking to me how much it looks "just like the map!" from the air. I love flying over NYC in the daylight. Driving downtown. Awesome new bike lane was painted on a road that's right on my commute to work! Sunday was another gorgeous day. Meredith and I decided to walk across the Williamsburg bridge and enjoy the weather. View of Manhattan from the bridge. Spring nights on the roof are wonderful. ...to drink beers on the roof and enjoy the evening. Spring 2009 Family Portrait. After seeing Watchmen , the glass pyramid apartment we saw on 2nd Ave on our walk home held some sort of conspiratorial meaning. Southbound over NYC at night. Beautiful. The cold, clear and wonderfully bleak view from our living room window. Not sure why I took this photo. Snow? On the walk home from Bleecker Street, we came across and old school HOBO FIRE raging in a garbage can. The best thing about winter weekends is not leaving the house until the sun is setting. It's like a perfect rectangle carved into the city. Central Park coming into view. I can see our house from here! (Seriously). Yodle's old offices were located on 39th St and 8th Ave. On Tuesday afternoon I was headed back to the office after lunch and I noticed a certain familiar someone on the giant GAP billboard that they'd recently put up... I took this picture for Lisa because of something she told me that makes me laugh every time I think about it. She told me that when she's walking home at night in Manhattan and there's some big steam pipe coming up out of the street and it's billowing steam everywhere she feels like New York is trying way too hard to be "New Yorky." And she's disgusted by it.
"Ugh, alright, New York. I get it, ok? You're New York." Haha. On Monday after work, the setting sun was lined up perfectly with the Manhattan street grid. Happy June 2008! Yodle's old offices were on 8th Ave and 40th Street and one side of our office windows faced the New York Times Building. We were working in the late afternoon when the relative quiet was disturbed by all sorts of sirens. We looked outside and saw a huge crowd and a bunch of fire and police vehicles gathering at the base of the building. See the "Z" about halfway up the left-hand side of the building that's facing the camera? If you look just to the left of the "Z" you'll see a tiny white pixel. Do you know what that is? ...all the way zoomed in and...HEY WAIT A MINUTE! IS THAT A FUCKING GUY CLIMBING UP THE SIDE OF THE GOD-DAMN BUILDING? Check out the gridlocked insanity on 8th Ave. Looks like they're filming a Hollywood disaster movie or something. Apparently, unbeknown to us, earlier in the day, someone had climbed the other side of the NYT building and this was the SECOND free-climber to scale the same building in a several-hour span! A little more zoom... How about I zoom in a little bit? Skyline north.
