Later, we enjoyed the windy afternoon admiring the view our affords of the East River. Here's Meredith showing off the two "dinosaur sew-on patches" she'd recently purchased.
Before leaving, I took a whole bunch of pictures of Cairo from my room's little balcony. Check out the rubble-strewn roof of the building across the street. Totally the norm for Cairo.
Around 1am, we walked down the waterfront and ended up having coffee on some really cool rooftop coffee shop that had great views of the city. Party beacon in the distance got us in the mood from some...
Our guidebook recommended a guesthoust in Phuket called the Thalang Guest House, but it was completely full. They directed us to place right down the street called the Old Town Guest House. Here's the view from our room, which only cost 350 Baht a night (about $8 USD based on the exchange rate at the time).
Meredith stuck her tongue out to do an impression of Piper and right when I snapped the picture, Piper (who is a notorious face-licker) saw Meredith's tongue sticking out and WENT FOR IT! Hahaha. I love this photo soooo much.
Here's Meredith enjoying Piper's cornchip-scented ears. Mmmmmmm! Piper has the longest tongue in the world. When she closes her mouth, the tip of her tongue is always peeking out because it's too big to fit in her mouth!
We shot up on the roof of the building where Nerve has its offices. While Siege was crossing the roof, he unknowingly walked across some boards that were covering an ELEVATOR SHAFT and fell through UP TO HIS WAIST. If he hadn't managed to stop himself, he totally would have fallen ELEVEN STORIES down an ELEVATOR SHAFT!
How insane is it that this is a picture of Siege just having saved himself from death. (Er, how about the fact that I didn't know Siege had fallen into an elevator shaft so I stopped to take this photo before helping him out. Sorry for almost killing you, for the sake of a photo!)
Fast forward a couple of minutes later and I ended up making a stupid bet. Which ends up leading to photos like...
On the roof there was this couple totally going at it in the corner. Here's Sarah giving the "rock fist" of makeout approval as we not-so-subtley tried to capture them in the act.
Saturday morning, I met up with Laura (aka - Special Sos) and her new
man Tavis (who is a rad graphic
designer) for breakfast. Afterwards,
we went back to the hotel, met up with Kate and hung out at the pool
for most of the day.
After getting my calls out of the way, I decided to head up to the Standard's rooftop pool which I'd heard so much about. The place didn't disappiont. Not only was it amazing, it was practically deserted.
After a sweet day at the beach, I went home for a shower and a quick nappity-nap, met up with Tara and headed over to the LES for a roof party on Sarah's roof. _____, with Damon and bday girl, Amy Chance.
We didn't know what the fuck was going on. The WTC is like 15 blocks from where I work and I just kept thinking about how it was going to be weird to see the WTC buildings everyday with big holes in them.
We stood on the roof gawking and trying to make sense of what was happened. A few minutes later, the 2nd tower collapsed. I don't think I could speak for several minutes.
Then, the first tower collapsed. I couldn't catch my breath. We didn't know what had happened. None of us thought at the time that the plane crash could've caused the building to collapse. We assumed that whoever crashed the plane must've also planted a bomb...which really scared the shit out of us. I remember thinking "Wow. They crashed a plane to get everyone's attention, and then they blew the building up."
