The June Roundup: Part Two

Here are all the photos I took in the second half of June 2010 that didn't end up in their own entry (Back to Part One)

Friday, June 18th

On Friday, a package was delivered to me at work. I opened it up to find a wooden box...
...with a pecan pie inside!
tara
I had recently helped Tara launch a new online store for Leviticus Jewelry and she sent me a pie as a delicious thank you!
After work, I went to a BBQ at the Soho Grand.

It's hard to look cool when you've got a nose dribble, Edie.

Saturday, June 19th

me, meredith
We managed to leave the apartment early on Saturday to head to Far Rockaway!
meredith
Stopped at Hot N Crusty (the unfortunate actual name of the restaurant/bodega) and got a pizza bagel before getting on the L!
Right before you get to Broadway Junction, the L train goes through a massive cemetery.
meredith
Meredith was reading Cook's...
EXTREME BANANA BREAD! Six bananas? Can you handle even handle the extremity?
me
Next stop, Nerd Beach.

Crossing over to Rockaway.
We got off at Beach 66 and it turned out Gurj and Jared were on the same train in a different car!
The ocean view from the train platform.
Underpass.
jared, jeet
Love these two.
Under the subway platform and to the beach.
Wildflowers.
Empty boardwalk.
Gurj brought a beach bag with built in boom-box iPod speakers.
jared, jeet, meredith
It was a perfect day and the beach was practically deserted!
jared, meredith
Sun naps.
me, meredith
We packed up our things a little before four.
Empty boardwalk.
Empty waves.
jared, jeet, meredith
No better way I'd rather spend a Saturday.
Did you know horseshoe crabs are considered LIVING FOSSILS? They've been around unchanged for over 450 million years!
jared, jeet
Looks who's ready for a post-beach nap!
me, meredith
Beach hair!
Subway snacks!

Later that night Edie got dropped off at our place!

Edie and Maddy are almost the same size and they look like negatives of each other!

charles, sarah
Charles was in town visting and came out with Sarah!

Sunday, June 20th

On Sunday morning my parents drove into town to visit. We took them to Back Forty for brunch to celebrate Father's Day!. Started out with some warm homemade doughnuts in strawberry rhubarb sauce.
dad
Steak and eggs. Check out that smile! Happy Father's Day, dad! Love you!
mom
Mom got a waffle.
Some white bean jim jam.
dad, maddy
After, they came back to our place and played with the hounds.

On Sunday we went to Meredith's parents house. We found these glasses in the basement.
me
Party time, incorporated.
Got home and cleaned up the living room all nice in anticipation for family night.
matt, pauly
Pauly and Matt showed up first and they had matching haircuts and beards FOR THE SECOND TIME IN A ROW! Haha.
matt, pauly
So good!
matt, pauly
We even managed to get them to hold a photo of them matching the first time!
matt, pauly
The first time back in October 2009! (Grant just saw this photo and commented "Whoa, look at those two hair-farmers!" Hahaha).
matt, meredith, pauly
Still beardtastic, though.

Monday, June 21st

meredith
On Monday I came home and Meredith was making homemade empanadas.
YES!
maddy
Hoping for crumbs.
meredith
Meredith showing off one of her homemade screens before installing it in the shower window. Mosquitoes be gone!

Wednesday, June 23rd

Fatty came over on Wednesday night!

Friday, June 25th

We headed over to Bleecker Street to see Matt play a reunion show with Schleigho!

These two'll do anything to get backstage.

Even haul your gear.
We went to Matt's for a San Loco taco festival.

(Insert your own bone-related joke here)
matt
Matt busted out massive Fla-vor-ices for dessert!
matt, me
Too much?
karen
Good times.

Saturday, June 26th

meredith, tracy
Meredith's Aunt Tracy was visiting from LA.
Later, we took her on a tour of one of the community gardens on our block.
maddy, meredith
Came home later to find these two curled up together.
maddy, meredith
Things worth noting: Meredith reads Heinlein and Maddy sleeps with her arms out and eyes half-open like a tiny zombie!
matt, meredith
Later that night we were walking to the movie theater with Matt and Ellen when we got waylaid by the Big Gay Ice Cream Truck.
Awesome.
I went with the Salty Pimp.

Ellen, Matt and Mer!

Sunday, June 27th

meredith
On Sunday we took the train back out to Far Rockaway.
Funny cans of hangover remedy sold at the local bodega.
meredith
Does it still count as leering if it's your wife?
meredith
We stayed until just after 5pm.
meredith
I cah-rush your head.
me
The fact that there are huge lots of open real estate between the beach and a running subway line is shocking to me.
me, meredith
Team Hobo forever.
One of my favorite things to do after riding the A train back from the beach is to get off at Canal Street for some...
...vegetarian dim sum!
If it's not fried...
...I'm not interested!
leigh
After a well-deserved nap, later on in the evening I hung out with Leigh and Scott. They were in the midst of packing up to move out of their 3rd St apartment!
scott m
Email break!
After I finished admiring the pigeon hatchlings that were living in their window flower-box...
leigh
...I told Leigh I'd help her try to recover some files from her old laptop. She neglected to mention...
...that the laptop was running some old school IBM operating system that seemed was totally unusable and absurd. (BTW, 0 != > 1)
We couldn't even manage to get past the basic set up screens.
Every time we made a mistake, we'd be taken to this ERROR page (with its cryptic "NO HANDS ALLOWED" symbol) that also included an animated flapping duck and three, five-digit numbers. It was like a plot-device from an episode of LOST.
leigh
Fantastically, entertaining though.

Tuesday, June 29th

fatty, marina
On Tuesday night I went out to Brooklyn to have dinner with Marina and Dave. (T-minus six months until baby Henry!)
fatty
Dave had some leftover 'works leftover from a recent out of state trip and donated them for me to bring out to PA for the 4th of July.
me
Not the most inconspicuous bag in the world; I took a cab home.
Check out the stash unpacked! (I was planning to bring these out to PA but when I heard there might not be anywhere to shoot them, I just ended up getting rid of them!) A transgression that twelve year-old me find unforgivable.
Meredith was up in the loft reading and I noticed some sort of a strange, home-made device sitting on the top of my dresser. It consisted of a wooden dowel, with a plastic knife-handle taped to the end (with black, electrical tape) and a brass-eyelet screwed into the top.
Close up of the knife handle / tape job. I was totally perplexed. Meredith saw me looking at totally stymied and started cracking up.
meredith, ta-da
She explained it was a device she'd fashioned earlier in the evening that allowed her to turn off the lights in the room without having to get out of the loft. Check her out demonstrating THE DEVICE in action. TA-DA!
I was skeptical that she'd be able hook the metal loop around the switch, but she showed me that she was already operating the thing like a pro.
ENGINEERING GENIUS!
meredith
So goddamn funny. Happy June 2010!
