shots
When the bartender busted out the huge, carved-crystal glasses to pour the shots in, we knew we were in trouble.
shots
...where a few of the fellas were kind enough to head to the hotel bar with me to do a celebratory birthday shot of tequila. Hoo-ah.
shots
And then later that night I met up with Emily and Rachael to celebrate Rachael's 26th birthday! Happy Birthday, Ray Ray! That about wraps up the first half of the July Roundup! Part Two coming soon!
shots
Shots are always a bad idea.
shots
Check out Rachael and Emily's expressions: can you guess which one of these two had the idea to order shots of Rumplemintz? Hahah.
shots
After giving up on being able to see anything good out in the bay, we decided to head into the gift shop. Here's Leigh getting ready to slam a shot with hoodie-bear.
shots
Here's the group doing the obligatory shot of Brennevin (the nasty liquor that I still have a huge surplus of from my trip to Iceland) before leaving the house.
shots
"Don't run! It's filled with vodka!" Ooooooooooookay.
shots
After I mastered being a DJ, I headed back over to my apartment to meet up with Grant. And do a little pre-party warm up drinking. Full Story: Remember how we went to Iceland? Well, we ended up buying a bunch of bottles of this stuff called Brennivan - which means "Black Death" in Icelandic. Anyway, only after we'd bought a bunch of bottles of it did we learn that it tastes like it's made out of Band-Aids and pine needles. Not wanting to throw it away, I decided that anytime someone's over my house and we're going on, everyone present has to do a jigger of Brennivan before leaving. So here's Grant and I about to take our obligatory medicine. *sputter*
shots
After two free rounds, he told me I was going to have to "earn" the third round. "Uh, how do I have to do that?" (nervous laughter).
shots
But hey, when it comes to getting girls dressed in naughty outfits more free drinks, sometime you gotta do what you gotta do. Meanwhile, on the other side of the dancefloor...
shots
Then afterwards, I bid farewell to everyone and went to meet (the newly blonde) Vinay at nearby Cherry Tavern.
shots
And then late night, I met up with Amber and Grant at M Bar for a night of Sid and Buddy Karaoke! Woo! The moment we walked in the door we were handed shots - compliments of...
shots
This was too fucking funny: Jen Choi and Amber were arguing over who should get to drink an errant shot of whiskey (that was likley there because we're all girly men who were too pussy to drink it). Jen Choi was like "How about we each drink half?" Amber was like "Sounds good. Here, I'll drink the first half." Then after pausing for a moment, she yelled "SUCKER!" and shot the shot. I managed to catch Jen's face right when she started to realize she'd been had. That just goes to prove the old adage: Never trust a heavily tattooed girl in a hot-pink lycra shirt to share her whiskey.
shots
The Tijuana Special: A shot of tequila and a can of Tecate for $5. (That shit was $3 back in the day).
shots
So right around this point (5:30am) my camera died, here's a recap of the rest of our night: We got into Ramses car and he drove us (s l o w l y) to Alexandra's apartment. On the way there, Scott fell asleep in the front seat - when we got to Alexandra's, (it's totally daylight now and she lives in a tiny little apt/house in this weird neighboorhood of identical houses and there are roosters crowing) she and I got out of the car and Ramses started to drive away with Scott. I was like "Whoa! Where is he taking him? Aren't we staying here? " Alexandra was like "You are. He's going back to Ramses; place." I was like "Oh, no, no. We're a package deal." I chased down Ramses and hopped back into his (moving) car, and told him Scott was coming with me. He got pissed and he and Alexandra started speaking heatedly in Papiamentu (the local language is a pidgin mix of Spanish, Dutch, French and English).
shots
Oh, did I forget to mention that the girls started doing body shots?
shots
The bar was fucking hilarious. There were TV mounted all over the place that were showing "hi-light" clips of rowdy things that had happened in the bar on an endless loop. Here's one of my faves: a line of people laying their heads on the bar backwards while the bartender pours down the line directly into all of the mouths.

Seasoned veterans at this point in the trip, we even managed to drink our raki without so much as a grimmace. Opa! Opa!
shots
With bellies full of steak and heads full of raki, we decided to hit the town in search of some girls (to frighten them with our BREAFFFF).
shots
The camera never lies. That's why the picture is blurred. But turn down a complimentary digestif in Greece and you might get your ass handed to you along with the check. Looks like we have some shots to drink. Oh well, here's to minimal liver damage.
shots
My mouth. . .
shots
...burning!
shots
tastes like. . .
shots
Which was followed, of course, by more raki. Being Americans (which are somewhat of a novelty to the locals as far as foreigners go) and adding that we had a member of our party that spoke fluent Greek, we were brought complimentary raki at the conclusion of pretty much every meal we ate. And because it's being offered gratis, it's considered an insult to not drink it. Fatty's face in this pic sums up how we were beginning to feel about having to do shots at the end of every meal.
shots
After another hour or so of (sobering) conversation, Kostas brought out a few trays of fresh fruit and several rounds of Raki, which is a bitter digestif made from the distillate of grape stems during wine production (not unlike the Italian grappa).
shots
We survived the raki. Mission accomplished.
shots
Thanks, Kostas!
shots
Before heading to the concert, we decided to break out the bottle of Brennivin we'd given Charlene and give it a try. Not heeding the advice of the woman who sold us the bottle who told us to "make sure we drank it out from the freezer."
shots
Turns out the woman wasn't kidding. The drink's "Black Death" moniker suddenly made a whole lot more sense. Hoo-ah.

As soon as we arrived at the new bar, we were greeted with seven shots of Jagermeister? (Me about the bartender: "Seth I thought you said this guy was your friend?") Can I get a capital "T" for "trouble?"

Put them up and...

...put them down. Hoo-ah. *Blech* *Gurgle* *Sputter* Check out Jagermeister suddenly transforming me into Dobby from Harry Potter. Jesus.

Even though it's more expensive than it used to be back in the day, you really can't beat The Cherry Tavern "Special." A can of Tecate and a shot of tequilla for $4? Wha?

shots
Thursday night was Dennis Crowley's 27th Birthday, so I stopped by Ludlow bar to bestow best wishes upon the birthday boy. (This pic was actually taken from his account of the evening).
shots
So we celebrated by going to, um, karaoke. Karaoke again? I know, I know. I should probably talk to someone about this, huh?
shots
Tyler, Ericka, Grant and Brett.
shots
EmEm, me and Grant.

*cough,* *sputter*

EarlyTimes inhibits rational behavior almost as well as it strips paint from cars.

Birthday Tequila.
shots
Post Birthday-Tequila Grimace.
shots
Some random bar, four hours later.
shots
Grant and Tim drink tequila (while Sarah does her impression of a gopher peeking out of a hole).
shots
After you're done laughing at my candy necklace (Hey, fuck you buddy - chicks were biting off pieces...what would you have done?) make sure to check out David in the background getting accosted by yet another random girl.
shots
Scott almost ended up getting in a fist fight with this guy, but then after the live band that was there played a few songs by The Dead, everyone mellowed out (yeah, maaaaan...play "Box of Rain") and they ended up buying each other shots...
shots
Or hell, actually, now that I think about it, the multiple shots of tequila might've had more to do with it...
shots
Randomly later on that night, Grant and I ran into Matt Lesser at Cherry Tavern who dragged us along to Jim Jarmusch's birthday party at The Library where we proceeded to run into and do shots with...
shots
Birthday shots!
shots
Two screwdrivers later, the midget was still ambulatory (and dancing up a storm) So we decided it was time to step things up a notch...and started buying him shots. Of Tequilla. Cheap Tequilla. Cheap Bar Tequilla...which he drank with no further prompting from us, on the dancefloor. (Note girl in white shirt in the background laughing and pointing.) Tequilla makes all kinds of people do crazy stuff. We couldn't wait to see what it would make the midget do...
shots
Here's a bunch of the guys in the dressing room at Joe's Pub "warming up." After several stiff drinks a piece...
shots
Well into the night.

Here's my Advertising Campaigns class, with our professor Beth "Dip Me In Chocolate" Barnes (don't ask, you don't want to know) getting shitty doing shots at Darwin's after our final. (Which was the last final I had to take in order to graduate.)
