On Thursday evening, Tyson invited Mer and I to Bowery Ballroom to see Petty Fest! So great to see them playing again after so many years! Bass drum fanboy reflection! San Eric. ...and then we went to Irving Plaza to see Archers of Loaf! They were great. Eric Bachmann is one of my faves! ...if you're not going to lean into each other's backs and rock in time to the music together during that pivotal moment in the (Whitesnake) song. Why even bother being in a band with your brother.... After everyone had gotten their faces sufficiently stuffed with treats, the band took the stage! Awesome. Just givin er. ...I heard Bad Religion playing! The crowd was... Great. ...Inner Party System. ...Neon Trees. Their singer killed it live. They sounded great. Awesome. Jared givin er. Innerpartysystem went on a little after midnight. Surfer Blood! After dinner, we headed over to the venue where Jared was playing later on. ...at Joe's pub. (The actual 5d photos from the gig are on a hard drive I couldn't find right now!) Fun live band. Goodbye cruel world. Pig blimp. There were rumors that David Gilmore was going to turn up and play a show, but he didn't show up at ours. Slots would open up in the wall revealing little mini sets that Roger would sing in. Wonderful. And a huge wall that they built up brick by brick. As the show progressed, the wall got larger and turned into a giant back-drop projection screen. The production was incredible. Complete with thirty-foot tall marionettes! I was a HUGE Pink Floyd and Roger Waters fan when I was younger and this was the first time I ever got to see him in concert. ...to see Roger Waters perform The Wall. While I was sitting there, two guys showed up with upright basses and started playing together. They were both using bows and making haunting, mournful, beautiful sounds and a man wandered over holding his newborn son and was holding him up into the sound. All while reading a book about learning to let go and get lost in life moment to moment. Call it the reason I live here. After dinner, we went to see a band play... They were pretty rad. ...to see our friend Marion's band, Sadhu Sadhu . Bonus points for playing the electric guitar with a bow. ...to a venue called Zebulon... I don't think the weekend could've ended any better! Good seats, no zoom. Faith No More is one of my favorite bands of all time. I was so excited to hear them play! On Monday night I went to the Bowery Poetry Club to see Brandon play a quick acoustic set! ...and Seth took over lead vocals. Go! Jaden rocked it! I can't remember, but I'm pretty sure it was a Foo Fighters song. On Thursday night I went to Webster Hall to see Inner Party System Awesome light show. They were great. On Monday night I was walking back to the apartment and I heard a band wailing inside of Banjo Jim's so I went inside to check them out. This is pretty much how the show looked in my brain. Magical. Phish's album A Picture of Nectar came out in February of my sophomore year in high school and I was obsessed with it. But this was the first time I had ever seen them live. The tickets were pretty fantastic. Show was great. They had a few different guys come up and sing. Fun show. ...a cover-band called HIPSTER: The House Band of the Lower East Side. Peep that turd-cutter, ladies! But it turns out we were in for one more treat: Pink see-through Genie pants. If you look at this photo closely, you'll notice that Har Mar's treating some front-row "super fan" to the "ultimate" live experience . Haha. I thought this was the end of the line... Yep. Uh-oh. "Fingerlicking good" isn't a phrase I'm comfortable with at a rock show. Shirtless? How about a costume change? Oh, neckstands aren't enough? You want more? Sure, I've got more for you... ...that's the marking for where he does a god damned NECK STAND. I would have been impressed by this alone, never mind that fact that HarMar was singing a song (and killing it) the whole time. If you're wondering about that orange square on the stage... ...and regularly SLAYS crowds. He wears shirts like this... ...looks like Ron Jeremy... ...who could it be but... ...Har Mar Superstar! They were opening up for... Later that night we went to the Mercury Lounge to see Posh Tony and play with The Five O'Clock Heroes. So much awesome. Followed by an all-girl Misfits cover band, Ghouls Night Out ! There was a stage set up in Tompkins Square Park and Jessica Delfino (of "Don't Rape Me" fame) was playing. ...to see Nightmare of You play a set! Later that night Mer and I went to the Bowery Poetry Club... Phoenix is amazing live. On Friday night I went up to Central Park because... The Horrors came out and played a set from their new record! Then later on in the night The Drums played downstairs. (Thank you, highly visible kick drum!) ...the Tribecca Grand. This band played! This band was playing in the main room. My dentist is also the RAMONES DENTIST! (Should that be taken as an endorsement or a warning?) After I got out of work on Thursday, I met up with Meredith at the Highline Ballroom to see Stellastarr.
