After karaoke, we headed over to the *ahem* Roxbury Diner (which for as long as we'd known it had always been called the Victoria Diner before the Hatzimihalis family decided to go all weak on us and cash out) for some late night burgers...
Boy, I'll tell you; nothing works up an appetite like shitty diapers! After Jord and Ross and home, Grant and I rushed off to get our In N Out Burger on. (If you remember correctly, I was introduced to the delicious In N Out phenomenon by LA transplant Kate Hill (but, you know, that was back before she went crazy and stopped talking to me).
After we finished eating, the plan was for Emma and Lorelei to call and say that we should meet them at the Sunburned Cow, a bar all the way over on Avenue C. We'd try to arrive right at 10pm, and everyone would jump out yell "Surprise!" (hopefully both surprising Grant and scaring the living shit out of him simutaneously).
Awww, yeah - check tha setup! Awwww, look how cute Grant's mom is all displaying the food with the boys. (And be forewarned, anybody making remarks about Moms in the comments section will be promptly banned. In the words, of the Wise Fatty, "Dat shit ain' coo'!")
After spending too much money at the arcade (those pound coins certainly aren't US quarters) we went the the nearby "Under the Arches" restaurant and got our fish and chips (Because it's just not a shore experience until you've had something deep-fried).
Here's Fatty's "meat from three different animals with cheese" sandwich. He's going to put this pic up on JDate to subtly communicate to the ladies that he doesn't keep kosher. Bad Jew! Baaaad!
...and authentic English snacks! An assortment of cured meats and English crumpets (which are basically taste like if you took a Thomas' English Muffin and cubed its deliciousness).
After fucking around for too long in Bali, we ended up having to make the 35 minute trip back to our condo at dusk (freezing our asses off the whole way). After dropping the bikes off and picking up our car, we headed to a nearby restaurant for an early dinner.
...Tymber had forgotten to request that he also remove the tail and fins. Check out her face as she stares at its crispy little arm waving helplessly in the air. Holy shit. We almost died. Chris played the good samaritan and filleted the fish for her while she averted her eyes.
Here's where I'd like to point out that Tymber was a bit of a weirdo (just in case the bit where she "willingly made out with Grant" in the previous entry didn't tip you off). She talked a bunch about being a strict vegetarian, and then out of the blue decided that she was going to order fish for lunch. She then went on to explain that she probably would eat fish more often, but the fish in Crete was served with the heads left on and it "grossed her out." So when Kostas came over to take our order, with the help of Chris as a translator, she explained to him that she wanted fish if it was possible to have it served without the head. Chris relayed the request in his perfect Greek, and Kostas assured her it wouldn't be problem. Twenty minutes later, the fish came out sans head, just as Kostas had said. But unfortunately...
A few minutes later, the garlic bread we'd ordered showed up. That's not cheese you see on top, it's ALL garlic. Normally, none of us would dare eat anything like this before a night out on the town trying to meet ladies. But at this point in our trip, we were fully confident that we weren't going to meet any. So instead of worry about our awful BREAFFFF, we just decided to enjoy the food.
After a light dinner at home, we were still feeling carsick from the overly bumpy (and long) ride home. We decided to take it easy at the condo. We even managed to find a delicious granola snack that described our photoshoots earlier on in the day.
Seriously, what's better than lunch in Crete? Check out the apps: Two Greek salads, Spanakopita (flaky Greek phyllo dough filled with spinach and feta), and tzatziki (which is yogurt with olive oil, dill and more garlic that you've ever tasted in anything before ever). Soooooo fucking tasty. Holy shit, I almost just drooled on myself captioning this picture.
Nothing whets the appetitie like a long day of SCOOTERIN! We ordered a giant Greek salad, two mixed grill platters, souvlaki, moussaki, and several plates of olives.
Which she did...but not before making us a delicious beddy-bye snack. Awwwww. So at 1:39am, after going 34 hours and 17 minutes with almost no sleep...two countries, five cities and one surprise metal concert later, we finally laid down and ended the first leg of our trip.
Our Icelandic stewardess (who didn't really speak English) gave us the choice between Beef Stroganoff and Curry Chicken - We all asked for the Stroganoff but were given this dish (which was neither Stroganoff nor chicken). For about ten minutes I had Chris and Fatty convinced that it was "most likely reindeer meat." Because, you know, "that's mostly what they eat in Iceland." Maybe it was Curry Lamb? We're still not sure. Yay, Mystery Meat!
Oh, and somewhere along the way we decided that our 1/2 pound burgers and plates of fries just wouldn't be complete unless we each ordered a bowl of chili too.
...it's Chinese Dim Sum brunch at Mandarin Court down in Chinatown. Here's Grant cutting into a, um, actually, I'm not sure what it is. Mmmm! Tastes like mystery!
And here's my dinner - both plates of it. No, I'm totally not fucking kidding. These two plates represent one meal. What happened was when the waiter was taking our order I asked, "If I'm really hungry, what should I get?" Before I even fishished asking he replied, "Really hungry, eh? Then you're going to want to be having...(dramatic pause)...THE CONQUISTIDOR." Me: "Mmmmm, that sounds good. I"ll have that."
At this point, our many hours of wasting money on stupid shit had begun to make us both sad and hungry. We decided our best bet at killing those two birds with one stone would be to have some gourment Mexican mallfood. (I don't even remember what the restaurant was called).
After Grant was done, ummmm, "freshening up," we went back out to Mott Street and got and awesome meal cooked for us on the sidewalk out front of the restaurant Rice.
All Life Cafe had to order was a plate of scrambled eggs with half-assed home fries. (But anyone who has eaten at Life Cafe will know that this dish is actually an improvement on their normal brunch menu. Someone should permeantly cut the power to their kitchen. Jesus).
The pics of Grant and Fatty's entrees were blurry (not to mention not all that intersting) so why don't we move onto dessert. Shall we? Splendid! Here's Grant with his Crema de Limon Y Queso.
Hahahaha. If Dave Fateman dies before me, I'm gonna make sure this is one of the pics they put on top of the coffin - because this one photo bascially sums up how Fatty's living his life.
...we hit the boardwalk for some more greasy food (between the three of us we ate 3 corndogs, a jumbo Italian sausage, a shish kebab, an order of fries and a FUNNEL CAKE.) The only thing that hurt more than my stomach was my wallet.
