On Monday, I hooked up the TV and stoked to see that our previous tenant had forgotten to cancel cable! FUCKING SCORE! I was, however, quite shocked to see the new HBO On Demand line up for November. Designa Vagina? Pumping His Grundle? Holy shit, right?
Kids growing up today must have it so easy - they can just turn on the interweb or HBO On Demand and pretty much see EVERYTHING. Back when I was little, if I wanted to see some some titties I had to wait until the end of the month and then go down to the Cumberland Farms (which is the north Jersey equivalent of 7-11) every day and sneak around back and go dumpster diving - hoping we'd hit the jackpot and arrive on the day that they threw out all the n00dy mags from the previous month! (We used to sell all the extras to kids in Middle School - $5 a mag!).
It was either that or wait until everyone went to bed and stay up for hours watching the Spice Channel hoping that the "scramble" would clear up long enough to see a tit! Hahaha.
Later that night I saw the most disturbing disclaimer I've ever seen at the end of a commercial for prescription medicine! "The way VERAMYST works is not entirely understood." Whaaaaaat?
The place even had a tv and a mini-bar (the first we'd seen in Thailand) that was stocked with reasonably priced drinks and snacks! As soon as we got there, Meredith was like "Let's stop traveling and just stay here until we have to go home."
It had begun pouring rain again in the early afternoon, and since it showed no signs of letting up, Meredith and I decided to go out and rent a portable DVD player for our room...
I was so tired I apparently fell asleep mid-round with the buzzer in my hand. Hahaha. And that ends the most-epic first day of vacation I've ever had. (Can you believe that this all happened in one day???)
Check out this one on the wall in the bathroom. I can almost hear the conversation between the two guys installing it. Guy number 1: "Hey, it almost fits here between these two mirrors." Guy number 2: "Works for me. Get the screw gun."
So: the flight takes off uneventfully; we've been in the air for about an hour, I'm kicking back in my seat, watching some reruns of The Office on my little Jet Blue tv set, and then a flight attendant comes down the aisle and drops off a little goodie bag o' snacks! I looked up to thank her, and although I only caught a glimpse of her before she continued down the aisle, I realized "I KNOW THAT LADY FROM SOMEWHERE!" Now mind you, I'm that guy that ALWAYS thinks he recognizes people from somewhere, but after racking my brain for a few minutes, I realized that the snack-totin' flight attendant was...
I was feeling cruddy all day and by the late afternoon I realized that I had a pretty nasty fever. (Prolly picked up a bug on the airplane). I spent the rest of the night laid up in my hotel room drinking lotsa juice and watching a fantastically awful Real World marathon on The MTV.
On Saturday I posted an ad on Craigslist about giving away this 14" TV / VHS combo that we weren't using anymore. I got over 40 emails about it in the first hour of posting! Insanity.
My Uncle Bruce is a gadget guy - he always has the latest toys! He'd recently gotten a new plasma flatscreen so my dad was only too happy to take Bruce's older HDTV off his hands...and Brett and I were the lucky ones who got to carry the 300lb monster down the stairs...
...and a third TV in the second bedroom. A realization that caused Mer to bust both boobies out! (The best part is, we didn't even end up turning any of them on. We were just excited by how extravagant the place was.)
And thirty seconds later....viola! The Fatty (who's at least 6'3") was there on the TV laughing his Fatty-laugh and standing next to the girl to show that she was taller than him.
We were hanging out around the corner from the stage, but we were able to watch the next band on the close circuit TV they had mounted above the bar. Fatty noticed what looked like a REALLY tall blond girl up front by the stage and was like "Whoa, that girl looks huge! I'm gonna go up there and see how tall she is! Watch for me on TV!"
As long time readers of this site know, I have a ton of bizarro-lookalikes: but the one that cracks my friends up the most, is the fact that I look quite a bit like Ellen DeGeneres. I was watching her comedy special and paused and thought I'd captured quite a likeness so I took this pic to immortalize it. Hahah.
And here's us pausing the show to laugh about how Brandon looked like someone asked Jim Henson to make a human version of a Kermit the Frog Muppet. ("It's not easy....wearing this vest!")
Then later on that evening Ryan from Nightmare of You came over and we all watched his band's first appearance on TV that Sarah had recorded. Here's Ryan next to himself.
You totally can't read the monitor, but is says: Corey Feldman's Pimpin' Birthday Bash. He had a whole section of the club roped off and he was dressed up like Michael Jackson circa the Moonwalker era in a blousey, white zoot suit, complete with feathered fedora. No shit. We were laughing a lot about him being our neighbor and all, but he and his wife are super-nice people. The club was totally mobbed and way too loud so we decided to...
We were watching Entourage on demand, and when we paused it to get up to answer the door, check out the expression we managed to capture on Johnny Drama's face. Hahahahaha. So amazing.
So we got to stay at the Hotel Kamp which is widely regarded as the best in Northern Europe. The plan was to get some shut eye after the red eye but we were really too excited to sleep. At about the same time we discovered that our rooms had phones next to the toilets. So we got to work and shared a moment.
Monday night I met up with Sarah and we headed over to a new karaoke night (shhhh! Don't tell Sid & Buddy I'm cheating!) over at Crash Mansion (which is, hands down, the GIZZAYEST name for an establishment in the history of the world).
I mean, why rub elbows with Double Gleam the Ringboy when you can watch the rock on a tv? Ok, I actually just went back up there to get another free drink.
My Aunt Elaine says it's because Zoe's bleeder (who still grooms her once a month) is pretty much her favorite person in the world and he's black so whenever she see's anyone black, she goes crazy. But we all suspect it's because she's a RACIST DOG!
Then we came inside so Zoe could watch some TV. This is the best thing ever: every time a black person comes on TV, Zoe goes absolutely apeshit. She had us laughing so hard I almost pissed my pants. Seriously, she'll stand there all attentive staring at the TV for minutes on end witout so much as a itty-bitty "woof." But as soon as any black person comes on TV, she barks and barks.
The bar was fucking hilarious. There were TV mounted all over the place that were showing "hi-light" clips of rowdy things that had happened in the bar on an endless loop. Here's one of my faves: a line of people laying their heads on the bar backwards while the bartender pours down the line directly into all of the mouths.
...to me singing my second karaoke jam of the evening. (Before "Oh! Darling" I also sang George Michael's "Faith." I was going to post the pics but now looking at them I'm realizing that when I wear my black leather "BSA" jacket with the fringe on the sleeves maybe I shouldn't wear such tight jeans because when I shake my ass it looks pretty fruity. Maybe it's just me though, I dunno.)
