Late night outside. Tinny getting sad because we realized with my impending move to San Francisco just ten days away, this was my 2nd to last Misshapes attendance (or so we thought at the time! Doh!). But that doesn't mean that she wasn't wishing me...
When Leigh and I met up with Meredith on the street, she was holding a shopping bag and laughing. Apparently, my birthday present that she'd told me was being "specially made" had finally arrvied and she informed me that she was going to "make me wear it out tonight." Well, Meredith's present turned out to be this uber-classy shirt that says "P is for Pussy" on the front (complete with a picture of the cookie monster doing the internation sign for pussy-eating)...
Later that afternoon the ladies took me to Red Bamboo for some vegetarian soul food. (Most likely, because unbeknownst to me, I was being taken to a steakhouse for my birthday dinner and this gave the two vegetarians a chance to fill up!).
Leigh said I could have anything I wanted for my birthday. So I told her I wanted to see her try on the "I Heart NY" t-shirt I had bought for my friend Ross and Jordana's son Dashle for his first birthday. (They moved away before I got a chance to give it to him and by the time I saw them again, he'd outgrown - or so I thought until I saw Leigh manage to squirm her way into it).
Oh yeah, and based on this picture I guess I also played "Hot For Teacher" by VH. (I only know that because it's the only song with a pick-slide hot enough to merit a physcial reenactment).
A week earlier Leigh had asked me if I'd be one of the DJs at her party. I was like "Uh, I don't know how to DJ, remember?" She was all "You don't have to beat-match and shit. Just bring a bunch of songs that you think will get people dancing. I'll take you over early and show you how to use the decks. It'll take twenty minutes." True to her word, she picked me up in a cab a few hours before her party was set to start, took me over to Luke and Leroy's (Here's the bday girl pulling a face)...
...Chicago's legendary Mr. Whitefolks, who is arguably the world's only famous white pimp best known for his extensive speech on the importance of "beating the shit outta your hos to keep them in line" in HBO's Pimps Up Hos Down documentary. When I showed up, he was actually in the process of trying to convince Leigh and Meredith and that they should "be his bitches." He later informed me that this process is known as "turning bitches out." (Check out both of Leigh and Meredith's absolutely priceless expressions. Hahahah.).
A little past one, Meredith and I went over to Kabin to meet up with Leigh. I went to the bathroom in the back and then ran into someone on the way back and when I got back to the front of the bar I found Leigh and Mer talking to none other than...
But when she took the camera from me, she accidentally flipped the camera from "picture mode" to "movie mode" and so when she leaned in and pressed the shutter to take a sneaky photo, she started filming herself!
The best part of the movie is when she accidentally bumps into the old guy and he wakes up! Almost as funny as the two of us having to turn away quickly and pretend that we weren't up to anything. Hahahah.
On the way home, Tinny and I stopped at the totally scary, 24-hour McDonald's in Chinatown so I could get my McChicken on. There was this cute little old Chinese guy passed out in one of the booths and Tinny wanted me to take a picture of her giving him a kiss. I showed her this one and she decided she wanted a better one and motioned for me to give her the camera...
After dinner I met up with Tins and we headed over to Lit. For the longest time, I'd told her she looked like she could be my friend Matt's bizarro sister. So when we ran into Matt, I asked for a side by side photo. Anyone else see the resemblance?
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, LEIGH! Monday was Tinny's official birthday and I took her out for vegan treats at Red Bamboo. Just because it's a seitan Philly cheesesteak doesn't mean she can't make carnivorous faces while she tears into it.
Later that night, Leigh got caught in the rain and decided to have a little nappity nap on her records while waiting for a cab. (I didn't take this pic. She emailed it to me the next day).
In the end, I ended up fishing his wallet out of his pants and looking up his name and address (if memory serves correctly, I think his name was Brice or something like that). Here's Tinny holding his phone to his ear as we took turns calling people in his phone trying to get someone who knew him to confirm his address so we could put him in a cab. (In the end, we were never able to confirm where he lived so we sat him down outside with a bottle of water and went back inside. When I came out an hour later, he was passed out and had pissed his pants and we ended up calling the cops who sent an ambulance for him. Doh!) Anybody know who this guy is?
On Sunday we headed back to Thompkins Square Park to enjoy the sunshine. (From L to R: Matt Lavin aka "Buddy" from Sid & Buddy fame, Vin, me and the Tins).
Amy gave a call and it turned out she was nearby! So she stopped by for some late afternoon lounging. And what's that up there in the corner? Is that Leigh working on her "Get a load of this fugging guy!" face? Let's take a closer look shall we?
For a long time I'd been telling Leigh that she looked like Cindy Loo-Who (from How the Grinch Stole Christmas). She didn't believe me until she put on my giant red wool Union Suit and suddenly the resemblance was too uncanny to deny any longer. Hahahaha.
...this. So you were right, Siege. I guess I am a size one. (PS - Hey Leigh, is there a PONY on my dress?). Afterwards, we ended up betting that I wouldn't run down Broadway buck naked for two blocks. We got down to street level and as we walked outside there were two police cruisers on the corner just hanging out. Saved by the NYPD.
The plan was to have Leigh pop her cherryaoke, but instead she ended up being Meredith's shy backup dancer. I was really disappointed in Leigh. Meredith however...
