a thing in 1,275 photos karaoke It'd been awhile since! Good times. On Friday night Amber invited me to Sing Sing for karaoke... ...the sing-a-longs started. Haha. As far as "this is my last night in NYC" photos go, this is a pretty good one. Bye, Carol! We'll miss you! Shake it up! We even got treated to a little Goldteeth & Lord Easy magic! Meredith giving her with a full suite of backup singers! On Wednesday night, we went to Fontana's for Carol's going away party... Jake! Amanda! ...karaoke at the dinner table! SING WITH YOUR MOUTH FULL! Afterwards, we went out to amazing Japanese restaurant that had... It'd been a while. ...for some karaoke! Birthday duet serenade. ...KARAOKE! These guys killed it. One guy on the mic, one guy there as silent fist-pumping support. Mer! John. Frank! Dangerous Type by The Cars. John and Lori. Haha. ...and then we headed out for karaoke! Soberoke. Skid Row! They had just recently opened and hadn't gotten their permit to sell alcohol yet. Which explained why were the only people in the place. Haha. On Monday night I went to meet Gurj and Fran, who was in town from London, for a few karaoke jams on Orchard. KARAOKE FREAK OUT! Such good times. Thanks again, Matts. We'll carry Sid & Buddy in our hearts forever (on the condition that their costumes have been recently laundered). David and Matt. Duet of power! Comedy-hat soul connection! Elle, Shandi and Larson. (Elle gets bonus points for singing into her fist. Hahaha.) Backup singers! The later it gets, the better karaoke usually gets. And by better I mean that people have less hang ups about rolling around on the floor. Slash and Axl. Haha. They even pulled out all sorts of old school costume performances! Oh, Axl! Henry. David K and Shandi David. Elle. Ben. Shandi! It was a fantastic collection of karaoke regulars from over the years! Lizzie! Speaking of getting down to business, here's David pretending an inflatable guitar is a real guitar that he is playing an awesome solo on! Skid Row? Steve Perry? Does it matter? We stayed until the very end at 3am. Lord Easy and Chris on the mic. GIVN'ER! He always sings crazy-difficult Prince jams and nails them every time. Soooo soo happy to see see-through shirts making a comeback at karaoke. So necessary. Feel the power in your loins! Now push it out! Scott and Amanda did a duet. Scott is a karaoke team player! When Amanda was singing, he was totally busting out all kinds of crazy dance moves along with her lyrics. Check out the accompaniment! Ditto. This girl was awesome. On Friday night we went to Poisson Rouge to see KKTC ! Here's Lord Easy and Chris kicking things off. This guy in the white sweater was a mess. This guy Michael is one of my favorite people to watch do karaoke. Fat Bottom Girls works great as a karaoke song......turning it into a serenade, however, is a dicey bet. It's clear from this photo that we'd reached that magical point in private-room group-karaoke where there are no more "solo songs" and every single jam turns into a group sing-a-long. Here's the gang kicking off Total Eclipse of the Heart . NOW IS THE SCREAMING PART! Scott treated us to a serious air-guitar performance of Slash's famous solo. ...GnR's Sweet Child O' Mine . Cynthia and this guy did a duet of... .....aaaaaaaaz! Jaaaaa.... All....THAT.... Followed immediately by Amanda and Nicole doing an All That Jazz duet. Nicole got things moving with MJ's Do You Remember the Time . Birthday boy sang Mother by Danzig. Haha. YES! Nicole and Cynthia did a duet of Heart's Magic Man . Amanda went new wave old school and sang The Metro by Berlin . The man in black sang Folsom Prison Blues . We headed over to the new Sing Sing on St. Mark's place and booked ourselves a private room! Nicole kicked off the sesh with Tina Turner's Better Be Good To Me. ...Piano's to welcome in the New Year with some late night Karaoke Killed the Cat! Killing it. Feathery eyelashes. Duet. Haha. Every time I've seen her sing she blows the doors off the place. That's the nice that about showing up to karaoke at almost 5am - not much of a wait to sing! RAGE! This gets the award for most cathartic birthday moment. Crazy-Face Me and Big-Mouth Leigh Leigh, Lawrence and Andrew. Gurj and Mer! This photo makes me LOL every time I look at it. Sarah looks like she's preaching and that girl in the background is doing her best to politely wait out the offer of a shared microphone. Hahah. Gina and Mandy with the birthday boy! SmellsGood Gina, Lawrence and Mandy. Haha. I think that's Kevin with Lord Easy. Because hey, karaoke! Here's Gurj and an awesomely red-faced Lawrence. Happy Birthday! This was the second karaoke birthday party that Karaoke Killed the Cat hosted. The first one I'd been to was in 2006 and it was epic . Culminating with me convincing the band to let me sing a couple of songs. Place was totally empty and we got to sing some jams right away. That's the best. Here's Kate killing Shoop by Salt-N-Pepa. This guy was awesome and he looked like a suburban-version of Sexy Joe ! Happy July 2008!
