After the show, I went back to Sarah's place and right after we got there, Gurj, who'd been away for weeks and weeks, got back. Look how excited these two are to be reunited!
...KEG STANDS! Hahaha. What started out as a joke quickly turned into reality as we all got drunk. Sarah went first! Homegirl got hoisted! Check out how perfectly vertical she is!
Tuesday night was official Halloween, but I was tired and had to get up early the next morning, so I just ended up going over to Sarah and Brandon's to hang out! My buddy Alessandro was in town staying with Meredith and I because he was playing a few CMJ shows with his side-project band Modwheelmood (I consider that band his "side project band" just because the other band he's in is Nine Inch Nails! Hahahah), so he came along!
In the end, Team NoJenny won! (Meredith decided to represent for Jenny by popping out her knockers!). After Cranium, we all hung out for a while and then someone noticed that Meredith had disappeared. When Meredith disappears from a party, it's usually because...
Karen, Sarah, and Jenny started out as a team, but about 15 minutes in the game, Jenny got a red-card for being too drunk to understand how the game was played. This was also the night that Jenny coined a phrase that I still happily use on a weekly basis. During one of the challenges where Sarah was required to draw a picture and get her teammates to guess a clue, Jenny watched her draw and started yelling out guesses. "Uh....it's FEET! Uhhhhh. Uhhhhh. Hmmmm. Oh! Feet! No, VAGINA! OH, FEET!"
Leigh, super-wasted Jenny and Brandon. It was after this night that a new Cranium-rule was instituted: "If you're too drunk to speak without slurring, you're too drunk to play Cranium." (AKA: The Jenny Penny Rule).
Sarah using Meredith as a puppet! (PS - Check out Meredith's sweet-ass souvenir shirt from Stingray City! This was her favorite shirt, but then two days later, Steve Irwin was killed by a stingray and she was like "Fuck, now I can't wear it because people are going to think I'm being smarmily-ironic about his death!" Hahaha).
Me showing off my mad-crazy Cranium sculpting skillz! The clue was "afro" so I made a little dude with an afro and put a lil' pic in his hair and Brandon totally guessed correctly!
The first song went off without a hitch, but in the middle of their second song, somebody busted out the TV remote and started playing a Girls Gone Wild DVD on mute. Hahaha.
Later that night I went over to Sarah's apartment to watch, Monty Are I, one of the bands that she'd recently signed to her label, play an acoustic show in her living room.
On Thursday, Sarah had another lil' party to showcase her burgeoning culinary skills. If I recall correctly, this was fetticine in a walnut-cream sauce. Outstanding!
She wanted all the album covers to be decorated with rose petals so she bought hundreds of roses, plucked all the petals off by hand, dried the pedals out one little tray at a time using a goddamned toaster oven!!
Later that night I went over to Sarah's to help her make a few of the 500 Nightmare of You singles she was handmaking and decorating with real rose petals for the one of the earlier releases she did on her Stolen Transmission label (this is well before Island / Def Jam agreed to be her distributor!)
I went into Sarah's room to say hi and found my new roommate Niki in there! Hahaha. Our internet access wasn't working yet so she was at Sarah's borrowing some bandwidth (which, as a former roommate of Sarah's apartment, she's allowed to do!).
We commissioned Vin as our vandal, er, artist...and on Sunday (with seven days left until Fatty's birthday), he came over to my apartment to look at pictures of Fatty and start sketching out some ideas for the mural.
Check out TableMate's patented "tuck under" curved-leg technology!
The July roundup gets cut short here because later on in the evening, I got a random call out of the blue from Mike Doyle and ended up going to Korea to teach English at a summer camp less than two days later.
One night we were all sitting around drunk very late at night when a one of those, super low-budge commercials came on advertising something called Table-Mate II™! A full five minutes after we'd finished giggling about it, Sarah was like "Actually, I could use one of those!" She opened her laptop and did a bunch of typing and then we all went back to watching TV and forgot about it. That is, until our doorbell rang a few weeks later and the UPS guy was delivering a mysterious package...that turned out to be, that's right, you guessed it: TABLE-MATE II!!! Hahahah. Check out how psyched Ryan is! Now he can eat and watch TV without even having to lean forward!
Hahahahaha. So here you go everyone, please welcome Baron! Drinking a frosty brew, foot through a hula hoop and a trucker-hat on his penis. (PS - I love the way the lens is flaring off of the mirror in the background making it look like Tinkerbell is sitting on his beer-swilling, penis-hat-holding shoulder!)
Then Baron decided to up the ante and make his steep I Keep a Diary debut even steeper - that's right, the undies came off. So, um, yeah. Here's Baron, at 12:08pm in the afternoon on a Tuesday, buck-naked in Sarah's living room cracking open a fresh brewski, while I'm snapping photos, Sarah's hysterically laughing, and Greg the Boyfriend (remember him!?) is trying to hide from my camera (not wanting to be seen in the room) and trying to not make accidental eye contact with Baron's wang.
So Baron grabbed a nearby hula hoop and started doing some sort of crazy, gyrating exotic I'm-in-my-undies hula dance in front of Sarah who was laughing so hard she started crying.
Later that afternoon back at Sarah's apartment (my temporary home for the summer) I had the pleasure of meeting one of Sarah's friends that had recently moved to NYC from California. His name was Baron and right when I met him he was like "I like your web site. What do I have to do to get on it?" I was like "Uh, nothing. Just hang out. I'm sure you'll end up in some pics." He was like, "Nah, I don't want to be in the background. I want some prime time pics. What if I do some crazy shit? Will you take pics of it?" Me: "Suuuuuure!" Without a moment's hesitation, Baron stripped down to his undies. I was like "Yeah, so you're in your undies. Now what?"
Then back at Apartment 3A, it was like craft class! Everyone was pitching in the help Sarah make customized record singles for her then-newly-launched record label: Stolen Transmission.
By the way, someone made this and hung it up on our fridge and I just now (yes, "now" as in eighteen months later while captioning this entry) just got the joke. He's in 3-D, but he's also in apartment 3D!
Afterwards we went back to my new place (at Sarah's!) and somehow ended up digging up this old gem (that was given to her by some random fashion designer at SXSW 2005) in Sarah's closet. How about you turn around and show us that dress, Tins?
On Sunday, I moved the last of my stuff into my new sublet at Sarah's, got my own set of keys, and got to officially add my name to the list the lengthy roster of people that are able to proudly call themselves "Occupants of Apt. 3A."
Oh, this was also the night we learned that Cory Feldman (yes, that Corey Feldman) had moved into Sarah's building and was living ON HER FLOOR in the apartment just three doors away! Hahah.
Cat was there with her ladyfriend. Here she is busting out her purse ("Hmmmm....what was in my bag?") and proudly repping for her well-earned "Ms Pillpurse" nickname.
Monday night a bunch of us went over to Sarah's to celebrate something (finishing her book?) and to have some beers and get warmed up for some pirate-themed party she and Karen were DJing at the Delancey.
