The February Roundup

Here are all the photos I took in February 2010 that didn't end up in their own entry.

Saturday, February 6th

maddy, meredith
Happy Saturday, you two!
Ordered in from Curly's.
Laughed at program titles on the Lifetime channel.

Hung out with my tiny shiny horse and rested up for...
later that night. We went out to Staten Island for Katie's Roller-Disco 40th Birthday!

Sunday, February 7th

On Sunday we had people over our apt for the Superbowl.

It was Dan's birthday and Sarah surprised him with an ice cream cake. Happy birthday, Dan!
Check out the custom decoration job! We didn't have any decorative icing, so Sarah and Leigh improvised. They covered the cake in ton of sprinkles and then used brownie crumbs to spell out D-A-N. Hahaha.

Sarah asked if she could use my computer to look at something new of the interwebs called Chat Roulette! (Man, this already seems like 10 years ago?!?).
sarah
It took all of 3 seconds to get a sense of crazy-high wang ration on Chat Roulette. Sarah was worried that people were going to screenshot pictures of her face next to weird-shaped wangs and other unmentionable stuff and decided to take precautionary measures by transforming my bike helmet into an IDENTITY CLOAK!
sarah, scott m
"Oh, well you know how it is, ChatRoulette! Just having a typical New York City post-Superbowl hang. Sitting around wearing a bike helmet on my face while my gay friend casts sultry glares in the background."
sarah
HELMETFACE!
katie, siege
I returned to the living room to tell everyone about Chat Roulette and found out the Saints had won the Superbowl.
ellen, leigh, piper
In other news, Leigh discovered that Piper doesn't like HANDFACE one bit!
ellen, leigh, piper
NO HANDFACE.
leigh
After the game, we all piled into the office...
...and spend the next few hours doing everything funny we could think of on Chat Roulette.
leigh, sarah
Things remained mostly anonymous. Haha.

Saturday, February 13th

On Saturday I was in the Flatiron area to pick a few things for Valentine's day.
I stopped by my favorite Korean place in the area (Express Mana Kitchen, mmmm!) and got their kick-ass tofu bi bim bab lunch special. I COULD EAT THIS FOR EVERY MEAL.
Afterwards, I went to Whole Foods to pick up...
...vegetarian marshmallows (a necessary part of my Valentine).
I also picked up Contemplative Science: Where Buddhism and Neuroscience Converge. I found it a fascinating read.

Here's the book description from Amazon:
Science has long treated religion as a set of personal beliefs that have little to do with a rational understanding of the mind and the universe. However, B. Alan Wallace, a respected Buddhist scholar, proposes that the contemplative methodologies of Buddhism and of Western science are capable of being integrated into a single discipline: contemplative science.

The science of consciousness introduces first-person methods of investigating the mind through Buddhist contemplative techniques, such as samatha, an organized, detailed system of training the attention. Just as scientists make observations and conduct experiments with the aid of technology, contemplatives have long tested their own theories with the help of highly developed meditative skills of observation and experimentation. Contemplative science allows for a deeper knowledge of mental phenomena, including a wide range of states of consciousness, and its emphasis on strict mental discipline counteracts the effects of conative (intention and desire), attentional, cognitive, and affective imbalances.

Just as behaviorism, psychology, and neuroscience have all shed light on the cognitive processes that enable us to survive and flourish, contemplative science offers a groundbreaking perspective for expanding our capacity to realize genuine well-being. It also forges a link between the material world and the realm of the subconscious that transcends the traditional science-based understanding of the self.
On the way home I picked up a Valentine's Day card. It was the first time I ever had to go to the FOR MY WIFE section!
meredith
We had Gruppo pizza for dinner...
...and then Siege and Katie came to our place to watch this movie. It stars George C. Scott and is about the military training dolphins as assassins. I didn't think it was remotely possible that I wouldn't love this movie. But it actually sucked pretty hard. TWO THUMBS DOWN!

Sunday, February 14th

meredith
I love this photo! On Sunday afternoon Meredith and I walked down to Chinatwon.
Dragon parade.
meredith
Back at home that evening, I kicked off the gift portion of Valentine's Day with some chocolates.
Meredith came back from the grocery store and revealed the plan for her Valentine's Day snack feast.
SO MANY DISHES!
Falafel, tofu skewers with tomato and green beans, corn congee, salad, sauces...
Taco balls (!!!) and fake-meat-filled empanadas!
meredith
For dessert?
Hot raspberry heart pie!
And chocolate-covered strawberries!
I busted out my four-part gift!

Part 2: Graham crackers.
meredith
Part 3: Vegetarian marshmallows. Ok, so it's s'mores stuff. What about #4?
meredith
I spied this little gem for sale and couldn't resist. It's a microwave s'mores maker.
I made a s'more, lifted up one of the little plastic arms and fired the microwave up!
Wow, what a huge difference! A totally different SMORES EXPERIENCE. There's no way a smore this fantastic could have been achieved without this necessary invention.
meredith
Happy Valentine's Day, my dear! Here's a delicious s'more served on the most pointless thing ever invented!

Monday, February 15th

On Monday night Karen, Sarah, Ellen, Mer and I went to the Comedy Cellar because Ellen had all scored us free tickets to attend...

Ellen Hart is the most amazing girl I've never met.

I'm not a lonely internet Stalker.

    I'm just a fan.

Affable faces and closet intellectuals do it for me. You could live 1,000 years and only meet  Ellen Hart once.

To the lucky guy (or girl), cheers!
