On Tuesday night, we went over to some bar in the LES side because Jenny told us there'd be free drinks... Good seats, no zoom. Faith no who? Crowd forming. ...to gather with the rest of the towns folk to watch the fireworks! ...into downtown Easton... On nice days in the summer, they have a painted community piano that they wheel out and put next to the dog park. Any one that wants to come by and play can use it. It's one of the coolest things I've seen in a public city park! On Thursday morning we had our company's quarterly review meeting. I had to give the product update. The audience awaits from the deck. Attendees getting ready to watch the debut broadcast. I <3 NY. Wading our way back home through the street fair! ...and then we walked up to the Oval in Stuytown... After the meal had been served, the guy came out and asked if we were ready to see some JOUSTING. After a warm-up drink, we were ushered into the main hall. Later that night Mer and I went down to the Soho Grand for the launch party of Nina's newest jewelry collection . ...and went on for like five whole minutes. Sort of scary. Around 1am, a huge fight broke out! It started right next the rink... Dance floor warming up! Crowd gathering. Schweaty dance area. There's always a huge crowd at UCB on Sunday night to see the 10:30pm ASSCAT 3000 show Showed up on a Wednesday evening and totally dominated. If you look carefully, you can see the patchouli in the air! Feasting in progress. Frank in the crowd! 3am dance floor. Karla and Niki's trays of assorted goodies were a little unwieldy on the dance floor. Party was pretty fun... ...and regularly SLAYS crowds. There was a stage set up in Tompkins Square Park and Jessica Delfino (of "Don't Rape Me" fame) was playing. Thanks to Joann for putting together such an amazing party in our honor! We really appreciated the party and we had a wonderful time! The crowd. Later that night I went to some fashion week party to meet up with... Fireplace. The Horrors came out and played a set from their new record! ...and went to some Japanese bar in Flatiron for a night of Karaoke Killed the Cat karaoke with the one and only... Crazytown. When the show started, the ring-shaped video wall was lifted up into the air, revealing the circular stage behind it! The production was bananas. The circular stage was surrounded by a ring-shaped video wall. After seeing my parents off, I biked over to Union Square to meet up with Fatty to see the midnight release of District 9 . Sweaty dancing until late! Happy birthday, Leigh! The shuttle train had stopped running for some reason earlier in the afternoon and so you had to wait in a big line to take a bus to the subway. Nothing makes me happier than taking the subway to the beach. The beach they were at was considerably more crowded! We walked through the doors and it was like we'd magically been transported to Miami! The wedding guests settled in and waiting for the action. Marina stood right in front of the band so that they could dance together. Aw. Lips kept coming down off the stage and into the crowd to do guitar solos. Afterwards, everyone sang happy birthday to Andrew... Happy Birthday, Andrew! We had an awesome time! A little after 8pm, we said farewell and walked across town... Last year's hunt was in Brooklyn. This year the entire hunt was in the EV/Lower East Side. Everyone met up at Houston and Chrystie...Everyone in attendance scream-sang Happy Birthday... Nothing made me feel older than not-knowing that one of my favorite bands of all time (that hardly ever comes to the States to play) was playing a show right down the street. The show was amazing. Here's a photo of the "afterhours" party we went to in an abandoned building that got shut down about 20 minutes after it opened because a big fight broke out (that may or may not have been instigated by a drunk and belligerent Meredith! Ha!). ...headed back to the bar for the big dance party that was going on. People were still there shaking their bums. ...slowly filled the place and the awkward co-mingling of our two groups on the dance floor was a scene to behold. ...was opened to the public and the crowd that comes into the city to hang out in the Meat Packing District on a Thursday night... At midnight, our "private party" ended and things got weird as the Meatpacking-District club that we were in... Thursday night was the Yodle Holiday Party! Hahaha. See? Check the crowd. It was like having the best private room karaoke session.... On Sunday afternoon we went to Lawrence's karaoke birthday at The Annex. The party. By the way, check out Zelda Kaplan on in the red and black striped dress. She still goes out all the time! Everybody gathering round to witness... On Thursday night we went to a party at Gold Bar to celebrate the opening of Court , Nicole and Lisa's rad new clothing boutique on Mulberry just north of Broome. The place was fucking PACKED. After wading through the crowd all the way to the back of the venue... The view of the dance floor from the DJ booth. Ooof! Apparently, unbeknown to us, earlier in the day, someone had climbed the other side of the NYT building and this was the SECOND free-climber to scale the same building in a several-hour span! So excited. Post-proposal party in full-effect. Karen and I kept hearing a familiar "wooooooooo!" sound and sure enough, when the lights came up, we spotted Jenny Penny! It was really hot and crowded backstage, so Karen and I went back out to see My Chem. The crowd! Insanity. ...a dance-party explosion! The source? Look directly under the disco ball and peep DJ Matty Matt on the decks in the other room! Hahaha! I don't remember who won, but I do remember that everyone screamed a lot. WOOOOO! On Thursday night I went Team Gallery for the opening of Ryan McGinley's latest show.
The opening was totally mobbed. (But apparently Ryan's shows keep getting bigger and bigger. Exactly two years later, in March 2010, Ryan just had the opening for his new show at the same gallery and it was so crowded that they had to call the fire department . Check out this photo of the crowd filling the street outside the gallery ! Insanity.) Afterwards, Mohomed and Hosam took me to to a local restaurant that they liked. The crowd. Goodnight, Cleveland! Next up was our friend Mr. Casey Squyres, who was visiting from out of town. After spending a little bit of time establishing cred with the crowd... Check out the crowd. Madness! This is a picture of the bar from the DJ booth a little before closing time. Good times. ...and I convinced everyone to head over with me for a late night dance party at Orchard Bar where... Yep, most definitely moving towards a good time. Around 2am, the party had gotten smaller (hey, it was Tuesday night!) but was still going pretty strong. Around 11, everyone congregated in the living room... Outside of the photo booth, the party was most definitely starting to gain momentum. Siege's two favorite things are Katie and New Orleans (well, maybe New Orleans comes in 3rd or 4th place after a couple other things I can think of), but regardless, Siege invited a feisty mix of people to come over on Tuesday night and celebrate Katie's birthday Mardi Gras style! Here's the birthday girl presiding over the early guests! Later Friday night, I went to Hanger Bar to celebrate... We made a party on the dance floor. (PS - Jackson, is that Sailor Moon in front of you? WTF!) Solid crowd. Around two, we said farewell to Nina and headed over to Hanger Bar for the Stolen Transmission party. After spending a little QT with the birthday girl, I made my way through the loft and immediately ran into... On Tuesday night I stayed late at work to stick around and watch the big unveiling of Meetup.com's NEXT BIG THING...
