We got our van all packed up and decided to catch a couple morning rays before heading over to Denny's (yep, Denny's again less than 8 hours later) for the post-wedding brunch.
On Monday afternoon I went out with Leigh and on the way to see her brand new apartment she was getting ready to move into we noticed that the magazine store on her new corner featured a magazine in their window with Leigh on the cover! Incognito!
...and took the golf cart out onto the empty course for some eagerly anticipated High-Speed Drunk Driving on the Totally Empty Golf Course (highly recommended, btw) and watched the sunset. Haha. Yay, Christmas in Florida!
On Sunday we got up early (for us!) to head to the beach via subway. Meredith took this picture of me and horrified me into realizing how long-overdue I was for a haircut.
By the time we finally motivated to leave the apartment, it was 3am (which is pretty much the best time to start your night in our neighborhood because it's the hour when the invading hordes of visitors call it a night and head home!)
On Friday night, Meredith and I went out to see a movie. We got out around 1am, and she decided to call it a night because we had to get up early the next morning to attend her cousin's wedding in Brooklyn. Me, I'm a bit of a night-owl, so I went over to Leigh's house where we did some pre-game drinking and wearing of women's vintage sunglasses from the late 70s.
...and Meredith was taking bottles she'd saved, cutting them in half, sanding their rough edges smooth and turning them into drinking glasses for our apartment. Hahahaha. LOVE.
On Sunday afternoon I came home from running around to find Meredith sitting at the kitchen table wearing sunglasses indoors and filing glass cups with a DREMEL?
Sitting in mid-day afternoon Egyptian traffic after almost 20 hours of travel = feeling like this.
After getting dropped off, I wandered around and checked out a few hotels and hostels before deciding on a room at the Carlton Hotel on 26th of July Street (just a few blocks away from the Nile River!).
Not sure what I did on Thursday because I left my camera at home! Murdo and Meredith hung out and took lots of pics on my camera. From what I can gather, it looks like they did some drinking...
We woke up Sunday morning and it was still overcast! But by noon, it started to look like it might turn into a nice day. While the clouds were disappearing, we hailed a longtail boat...
Hahaha. Amazing. The entire Annex was filled with giant sunglasses, glow-sticks and inflatable guitars and giant microphones. Maybe the band that was playing brought them? I have no idea.
The day was perfect. We pretty much just sat around stuffing our faces with snacks and enjoying the sun and occasionally stopping to mock people near us. Like the girl in the background that decided to use her boyfriend as a bench. WTF?
Then I made sure I could use my new camera to take pictures of myself where you can't really tell that I'm the one holding the camera. (Which is important when you travel by yourself!)
Mom's home! Leigh came over to pick up Edie and she and Meredith modeled their matching shades. I love how Edie's sunglasses are sitting on her snout and her little doggy legs are just hanging down all slack. Hahaha. Best. Photo. Ever!
Here's the pic I snapped of the two of them cozying up at like 5:30am before I left. I ran into Xiaoting two weeks later and she simultaneously started laughing and hitting me. Then explained, "I was so drunk I ended up flirting and talking with that dude for hours before finally getting around to mentioning how cool it was that he was in Guns n Roses and he was like 'What?!?'" Hahahahahaha. Oh man, what's better than this photo? Happy August!
Around 3pm we decided to pack it up, but not before I tried to take a sweet photo of the two of us together and Meredith made this totally amazing face behind my back. Hahaha. I love how it looks like she's actually licking my shoulder.
Here's me moments later getting ready to watch my fingers explode in blisters. (I actually ran back to the entrance, found a bathroom, washed my hands thoroughly and managed to avoid any type of irritation. Well, physical irritation at least.)
Yes! It was one of those rides where you watch a movie in a seat that moves around in synch with the screen and it totally tricks you into thinking that you're moving all over the place. (Shit ruled!)
About an hour after we'd used our little doohickey to reserve a time, it was time to head back to Nitro and ride that shit. Here's the ride reflected in Meredith's palm-tree shades.
After the ladies were done flashing their bling, we stopped off to rent one of those little wireless buzzer things that lets you "check into" a ride and not have to wait in line! (You go to a ride, hold us the little beeper thingy to a hot spot, and then the doohickey tells you when to come back to the ride and get on! That way you can roam around the park and go on all the lame rides while you wait for your turn on the big-boy rides!)
...we had an hour before the reception and I wanted to grab a quick nappity-nap to ensure I'd have the juice for what was sure to be a full night of drinking and antics. Grant, Meredith and I all went up to our room and just as I was falling into dreamland...
