Me and Mer.
me
Beach-tired.
me
I busted out the auto-timer and captured this great photo of us waiting on the platform for the subway.
me
My skin feels like red.
me
On Sunday we got up early (for us!) to head to the beach via subway. Meredith took this picture of me and horrified me into realizing how long-overdue I was for a haircut.
me
The guy on the left is Alysha's boyfriend, Yonatan! He's a Berkeley PhD student and is currently living in Panama studying the biomechanics of gliding in wingless neotropical worker ants! AWESOME! Next to him is a friend of Alysha's who lives in the New York and came out to see her.
me
Alysha was in town visiting from San Francisco!
me
...everyone had left! People noticed that I was missing about ten minutes after I'd disappeared. After more than an hour passed, everyone figured I wouldn't be coming home any time soon and took off. Hahaha. Thanks for coming over everyone! Sorry I missed the end!
me
These guys are Shruti's friends They were super-nice and totally get super-wasted later on in the night (just like me!). SPOILER ALERT!
me
Shruti and me.

This is the very last photo of me at my own birthday party! Right after this photo was taken, I made the mistake of having ANOTHER drink and smoking MORE pot and the room started spinning 'round like the blades of a helicopter. Instead of making a big deal about how sick I was feeling, I just grabbed Meredith and quietly told her "I'm gonna go take a couple of laps" and sneaked out of the party to wander the manicured gardens of Stuytown until I felt better.
me
Hahah. Yes! It's clear that the dance party has officially started.
me
Hallway buds.
me
Hahah.
me
Birthday coldlamp.
me
Me and Ellen.
me
Hahah. Thanks for going out for late night drinks, you two.
me
Committed.
me
Meredith couldn't come to the beach because she had to go to work. But I let her enjoy it vicariously through the smell of my beach hair.
me
Check out our MAJESTIC beach hair!
me
Getting ready to make a run for it!
me
I took a day off from work on Friday so that I could spend my actual birthday on the beach! Mandy met me on the subway and we headed out together!
me
Mer and me.
me
Dear Friend, Greetings from the future! You are going to be just fine.
me
Sarah was sad because she and Brandon had just broken up so I serenaded her with some soulful tunes of loss on my wooden pan-flute.
me
Yay, karaoke friends!
me
Haha. Elevator ride down.
me
The blissful sounds of Guitar Hero must've made their way to where Meredith was sleeping, because she reappeared from her nap just in time to...
me
After, I met up with Posh Tony and his lady Cyan down the street.
me
Hooray for yelling!
me
I love this photo. It's even funnier when you realize that I took this photo by hooking my arm around behind Pauly.
me
Awww.
me
Love, me, Amanda and Scott (Sorry about cutting off your head, BTW).
me
Me and the birthday girl!
me
It's pretty much impossible to make tough guy faces when you have beach hair and a pink towel, but that sure as hell didn't stop the likes of us!
me
I got home a little before 5am and found this little nugget wide awake and reading nerdy scifi novels (Alastair Reynolds!) in bed. Awww.
me
I bet Zoe really regrets that she didn't abide by our spur of the moment "NO SHIRTS IN THE BAR AFTER 3:55am" party-policy.
me
You think after getting so drunk on "big beers" that I french-kissed a senior citizen on my birthday back in 2003, I would've learned my lesson. But, NOPE!
me
This one's for the ladies.
me
What time is? Oh, TIME FOR A GUNSHOW?
me
Brandon was there.
me
...but Vin kept on laughing (like he usually does). (By the way, any time I'm making faces like this in photos that's usually a leading indicator that I'm on my way to CRUNKEDSVILLE).
me
My main man Vin was there. I kept trying to get us both to make ganster faces like we usually do...
me
This is probably the best beach hair I've ever had. It makes me want to get a body-wave perm so bad.
me
I tried on his fedora but on my tiny pin-head it ended up looking like a bowler hat that Blossom's friend Sixx would wear.
me
I like how everyone is kind of doing their own thing in this photo. (Lisa's thing wins).
me
Me showing off Meredith's mom's bling on my pinky. It's a good look for me, no?
me
After a crazy-late night at Hanger Bar the previous night, here's me after 2 hours of sleep all dressed up in a cab on the way to Merdith's cousin's wedding in Brooklyn.
me
Me being a bad lil' smoker.
me
Betsy and me.
me
By the time we finally motivated to leave the apartment, it was 3am (which is pretty much the best time to start your night in our neighborhood because it's the hour when the invading hordes of visitors call it a night and head home!)
me
On Friday night, Meredith and I went out to see a movie. We got out around 1am, and she decided to call it a night because we had to get up early the next morning to attend her cousin's wedding in Brooklyn. Me, I'm a bit of a night-owl, so I went over to Leigh's house where we did some pre-game drinking and wearing of women's vintage sunglasses from the late 70s.
me
Chuck took this great photo of the rest of us. Future in-laws!!!
me
Meredith had spend the afternoon uptown at her parent's house. After I got back from the beach, I went to meet Meredith at their apartment...
me
The next morning, Nina and I got up super-early and took the A train out to Far Rockaway.
me
...and headed downtown to meet up with Nina and check out a new party the MisShapes were doing at Santos Party Haus.
me
I think it's safe to say we're all getting a little drunk at this point.
me
And it apparently inspired us to take this photo in the middle of it.
me
Beleaguered me.
me
Face protection.
me
Me and Matt.
me
I stowed away my three peanut butter jars of paintballs in this fancy little hip-satchel. Mercenary chic!
me
If you've been reading this site for any amount of time, this probably goes without saying: Me = Not a Morning Person. In order to play paintball with my co-workers I agreed to a 5am wake up call. Here's me making sure I'm actually in real life after only getting about ninety minutes of sleep. TIME TO PLAY PAINTBALL!
me
And even more people squeezed in on the other side!
me
Happy!
me
You're the man now, dog. Hahaha.
me
Here's my taking a photo of...
me
Great success!
me
Before she could answer, I got down on knee and popped the big one! She was so surprised that at first she didn't say anything. She just kept looking around totally surprised trying to process what was happening.
me
Yay!
me
As the surprise wore off, she just started laughing and laughing. Her first words back to me after my proposal were inspired by Bret Michaels and VH1's awesomely terrible Rock of Love. She asked, "Will you stay in this house and continue to rock my world?" Hahaha.
me
Hahaha.
me
Hahaha. Here's me arriving at the party and making a "Meredith has no idea that I'm about to propose" face while Cat gives me a purple nurple.
me
While Meredith sat on the couch, all of the roof guests quietly sneaked into the apartment but stayed by the door out of Meredith's sight. With everyone in place, I took a deep breath and tried to pretend that I was just casually joining her on the couch. As soon as I sat down next to her, the noisy party instantly went completely silent and Meredith noticed that everyone at the entire party was looking at the two of us and aiming cameras at us. Before she could ask what was happening, I asked "Remember four years ago when you asked me out on this couch?"
me
With Meredith in place on the couch and still not suspecting anything, it was time for THE PROPOSAL. Here's me doing my best to pretend I'm not nervous while a couple people sneaked out of the party and rounded up all the guest hiding up on the roof.
me
The Soon-to-be Battjers! (I love this pic so much).
me
Ellen and me.
me
Homeward bound (with sunburned noses).
me
Every time I get off it, my face hurts from smiling.
me
And the view of us on the way down. Hahaha.
me
Before hitting the rides, my little brother and me decided to warm up first by playing a little Dance Dance Revolution (which was a bold choice on our part considering it was daylight and the machine was outside). Check out my little dancin' dino arm!
Here's the whole thing captured on video courtesy of Siege. (My favorite part is after all 15 seconds of kissing and the room yelling of the word "woo," it gets quiet for a second and Sarah goes "WAIT, DID SHE SAY YES?")
me
Me and Lisa.
me
Rock n' Roll Fatty.
me
Awwww, Tina!
me
More Wii action shots.
me
Hahaha. Em and me.
me
Some days are action packed. Other days...
me
Ugly face! They trick is to get your two eyes to go in slightly different directions. Wonky eye!
me
It's time for bed. Thanks for inviting us, Matt!
me
Watch yer eye!
me
...it probably means you're drunk. But hey, she did it! So, win!
me
And activities like this. Any time that you think it's a good idea to try to see if you can still put you're leg behind you're head and you're in a bar...
me
Drinks like that inevitably lead to a group that looks like this.
me
Hahaha.
me
Me and Karen. So happy!
me
Congrats, homey!
me
Yep, that's about right.
me
To long lost friends...
me
I danced a whole bunch and got a sweaty hair-helmet.
