I immediately was struck with the intense feeling that I knew him already somehow. And also with the feeling that he felt the same way!

...who needed a post-breakfast nap!
me
I couldn't sleep and was up late feeling and looking like this.

On Sunday I finished evening I graduated from a two-day Reiki Two class. Here's me with my classmates Priya, Stella & Galina.

On Tuesday afternoon, former karaoke super-host, Matt came over for what turned into a four-hour reiki session. Matt's since gone on to become a reiki practitioner!

Is it weird to spend your evenings sitting & singing alone?

Painting always takes a lot longer than you think it's going to take! Over four hours after starting....
me
...in a technicolor magic shirt. Hahah.
me
Walking home down 9th street, I spotted a ridiculously colored and patterned shirt in a thrift store window. I'm not exactly sure what compelled me to go in, because I'm not exactly a big clothes shopper, but I decided to go in and try it on. It fit perfectly so I ended up buying it.

Auto-timer class portrait before we all went our separate ways! Thanks for a lovely weekend, everyone!

She'd gotten some last minute tix through work.

Ellen came over for a hang and I congratulated her on her recent departure from the New York Times with this...
me
Jumped rope and took my fitness progress photos (don't worry - I give up on this soon enough!)
me
On Thursday evening John came over and I did reiki on him.
me
Later that night, I met up with John and we took a cab over to...
me
Stayed until they closed the place!
me
Thanks for inviting us out, Lauren.
me
Gurj came over a little after midnight, and in contrast to our asleep-on the-couch by midnight Saturday night a few weeks ago...
me
Neat to be able to walk around and explore such a cool project!
me
<3
me
Great seeing you guys!
me
...lose to the Giants! That's ok, though. I was mostly there...
me
Like in this photo Grant took of me back in my apartment after the sun set and it started getting chilly. It looks like me, but also somehow, different!
me
Gurj came over for a feast-over!
me
Grant came over a little before midnight and we walked over to the football field at East River Park for an awesome session of night frisbee! One of my most favorite things in the world!
me
Said farewell to Josh, Jenny & baby Juliette.
me
At some point in the evening, someone else usually takes my camera away from me so that I end up showing up in some of the pics! Kim and me.
me
Someone took my camera away and used it to snap this pic of me and Jenny!
me
I'll post this version instead of the one where I'm "keeping my balance" by holding onto Kim's dreamy leg.

Me and Sar.

Happy August 2013!

Happy gardener portrait.

me
Stopped at some huge indoor market and got snacks and freshly baked donuts...
me
Tuesday was my last day in town. We got up early and rented bikes!
me
We made it back to our cars in around four hours (walking downhill is much easier) and then drove into Pemberton for a late lunch.
me
I tried to do my best impression of Grant's toe-touching DLR kick and came-up short.
me
Woke up before 7am, excited to be the middle of the nature with no more rain!
me
...before it started again and kept up all night. We hung out for a bit in the evening...
me
We got our tents up and managed to get inside shortly before the pouring rain started.
me
With the campsite almost in our sight, the pouring rain finally overtook us. We had to scramble up really steep hillside to find a tree large enough to provide any shelter.
me
I made it out there, JUST barely! Realizing that Matt had made something tricky look easy.
me
me
Photo to prove to future generations that I saw a real glacier.
me
All set for the mountain.
me
OK, READY FOR THE WILDERNESS!
me
On Thursday morning I grabbed Maddy, hopped in a cab up FDR...
me
Vin always likes to take my camera away from me and use it to take a picture of me. Haha.

Later that afternoon we walked down to Chinatown.

Thursday was my 37th birthday! Spent the early afternoon working around the apartment and then jumped rope for an hour.

2-pac. Haha.

...to spend the afternoon....
me
...and then went over to the Bowery Hotel to meet up with Caiti...
me
Oink oink!
me
More of my health self-portraits trying to document the effects of all my juicing and rope jumping.
me
On Monday afternoon, I said farewell to Brett and Amy...
me
Dumplings and an afternoon drinky-drink!
me
Brett snapped this pic of my sun-snoozing with my best-bud at 4pm after a long day of walking around in the heat.
me
Astra insisted I try them on, just so I could "see how they feel."
me
We went to the park across the street and chowed down! Just because it's one-hundred degrees doesn't mean you shouldn't eat piping hot, extra-spicy food!
me
On Tuesday afternoon I biked down to Chinatown to meet up with Davo and his friend Jen at a bakery. After picking out delicious goodies, we went next store to Magic Jewelry to get our photos of our "auras" taken with the Guy Coggins-designed AuraCam6000.
me
Here's a close-up of my photo. After your picture develops, the woman there explains how the colors that appear in your photo relate to the things that you been thinking about and doing. I came and total skeptic and left dying to read more about how this thing works (I ended up visiting the house of the inventor when I was out in the Bay Area a few months later - but he was away at a conference!)

From Brian's website page about Reiki First Degree:

The Reiki process is a simple method of hands-on healing as developed by Mikao Usui, a monk from Kyoto, Japan. After training, Reiki energy flows through the body to the hands of the Reiki healer and into the cells of the person being treated. The energy is used to normalize body functions. It helps to reestablish balance and harmony on the physical, emotional, and spiritual planes so that the natural function is restored. Reiki differs from other healing methods in that a specific attunement process is used to prepare students for the flow of healing energy. This protects them from either transmitting or absorbing any negative energetic patterns.

This is a 16 hours class taught over two days. The class is divided into four sections of about four hours. In each section of the class, students will receive an attunement from the instructor, increasing their access to the Reiki energy and boosting their power level. By the fourth and final attunement, the student will have permanent, life-long access to Reiki, as well as all the knowledge and skills to use it successfully on themselves and others.

(It's 2015 and I still regularly practice reiki on myself and others. If you're interested in a session, email me. Skeptics welcome, no belief required!
me
Here are pictures Brian took of our class of five.
me
I was feeling all gunked-up inside after getting divorced and after trying a variety of things, someone suggested I try reiki. I wasn't very optimistic about it, but decided to give it a shot. I booked a session with Brian and was really amazed at his ability to rid my body of the feeling of "stuckness" I was holding. After a few really interesting sessions, he encouraged me to take his "first degree" reiki class.
me
Such buddies.
me
Friday night drinks with Davo and Kim.
me
...before heading out late-night to meet up with Kim. On the way home, we randomly ran into Jon, who was into town from LA for one night!
me
It's ok to post undie mirror selfies as long as you wait a few years, right? Good, cuz here's post-jumprope fitness photo. (I was never able to stick with running long enough for it to change my physique. Jumping rope is trickier to learn than running, but definitely changed my body much more quickly than running.)
me
I even managed to convince Vin to come and hang out, but he ran away when the girls had a few drinks in them and started getting fresh with their hands. (PS - Whenever you see me smoking in a photo, there's a 100% chance I'm drunk).
me
Haha.
me
Just one of the gals.
me
2am tipsy self-portrait: holding myself up against a wall. Haha.
me
Upright bike posture!
me
Later that evening Fatty came over for a visit...
me
...and we went for a bike ride down East River Park.
me
Let's hear it for jumping rope. 4-packs away from a 6-pack!
me
Spent the evening cleaning up my apartment (which means taking all the stuff lying around everywhere and putting it up on shelves).
