Me and a couch full of New Year's babes. (Mer's face is priceless).
me
Amanda came over to my place around 9pm. We headed out together to catch a cab over to Ellen & Han's brand new apartment in the West Village.

Last selfie of the year.

me
Thanks for coming to visit! Happy December 2012 (glad the world didn't end....yet!)
me
The veggie burger at the Bowery Diner was sooooo good. Made of swiss chard & beets and topped with cheese and horseradish sauce. Fuuuuuuuuu)
me
Thanks, Mom! Three winters later and I still wear this guy all the time.
me
Later that afternoon, I bid Sylvie farewell and headed...
me
...take the obligatory Eiffel-selfie.

I hadn't seen her since we went to Coney Island in January 2008, right before she moved back to Paris.

I ended up moving the laptop behind me out of my line of site. The software allows you to "record" your brainwaves and review them after the session is complete.
me
Went back out and got an hour of deep tissue massage. My face is all red from being smashed.
me
After you wear the device correctly, it begins to measure five different wavelengths of your brainwaves in real time and sends the data via bluetooth to your computer...
me
Jury's still out about whether or not they make you look tres cool or not. (Grant's face in the background. Haha).
me
If it clips-on but gets so big that it looks like a hat, then it becomes a hatinator, which sounds like something professional haters drink when they are thirsty.
me
Awww, sad! Meredith and I spent a few week experimenting with joint custody of Maddy before eventually deciding, based on our schedules, that it made sense for me to take her full-time. I took this photo after Maddy had been over at Mer's for three days. It can be so sad to come home to an empty apartment when you're used to being greeted by a little wiener. In my journal for the day I wrote, "I keep rushing home to discover there's nothing to rush home to."
me
Very thankful for this guy.
me
All bundled up and trudging through the snow for a late night...
me
On Tuesday afternoon I had lunch with my friend Jon. We went to summer camp together the summer after middle school and hadn't seen each other since 1990! From 14 to 36 in the blink of an eye! Great to see you, Jon!
me
Reflection portrait of me and the hound.

...and DKNY!
me
...and when we got out of the movie, the streets of New York were practically deserted as well and...
me
This was the first party I'd gone to since Mer and I had split up. I was feeling sad & and little tender. I didn't come with a costume so Jenny helped me spice it up a bit...
me
...with some glow-in-the-dark vampire teeth to help with the Halloween spirit.
me
Thanks to this guy for making my rock n' roll dreams come true!
me
...and spent the next FOUR HOURS downhill speed-skating a recently-paved 1.5 mile stretch of road over and over again.
me
Afterwards, I said farewell to Dave...
me
Self portrait snapped after my last run of the evening 5:09am. This was a really magical night. Despite being in the middle of a breakup and feeling really scared and unsure about the future, everything that was on my mind dropped away and I felt happy and unburdened.

Sunset selfie!

It's funny that we relate to places we used to live as old friends. I remember my dad's Mustang parked out front of the house. I had night terrors when I was a kid and when I couldn't sleep he'd drive me around the neighborhood.
me
Thanks for letting me stroll down memory lane, kind strangers!
me
...for dinner at Pasta Novo (?).
me
I'm like a blonde Lloyd Christmas.
me
No hotel party can withstand a 3am manvasion like this.
me
We decided to try to put all of our troubles aside for the day and head out into NYC to do something new and fun. We decided to walk north...
me
Don't worry buddy, we're all headed home!
me
me
Mom & me.
me
Oh, you know just a relaxing Tuesday night at home using my new body atlas to help me find ass-knots with my weirdo cane. You?
me
Bon voyage, Dr. McGraw!
me
On Sunday morning Meredith, Grant and myself...
me
Always lovely to see you, Caitlin!
me
...I met up with these guys at Bowery Ballroom to see...

I've known and loved these two since 1994. Thanks for helping me celebrate another year!

me
Hotel portrait shenanigans. Haha.
me
Who's ready for a family reunion?
me
While they were admiring the ceiling, I became quite taken with a nearby mirror that somehow made my nose look enormous! (Turns out it wasn't the mirror!)

...while Jared and I set out to explore the grounds.
me
Polaroid portraits.
me
Happy birthday, Leigh!
me
We took the A out to Beach 66.
me
Spent the morning stretching and preparing for a kickoff meeting with a client.
me
As a consultant, I get to see lots of different work spaces. I always enjoy the kinds of conflicts that come from different companies sharing bathrooms.
me
Happy birthday, Cynthia!
me
Selfie test-shot success!
me
Me, Mer and Quinn in the back.
me
Met up with this guy...
me
Even when you win, you lose. (Incidentally, the face I'm making here is the same one I made each year when the elementary school photographer told me to "smile" for my class photo. Haha).
me
New game! Who can hold a coin with their face the longest!
me
Meredith captured a little bit of my post morning-walk cuddle time with the grimple.
me
I took an antihistamine and about thirty minutes later I'd almost returned to normal.
me
...I was trying different kinds of niacin (experimenting to see which kinds increased my ability to remember dreams!) and the new kind I'd just purchased made my face immediately swell up and get all puffy.

Later that afternoon, we got dressed up for the wedding, threw our ponchos back on...
me
Not a bad way to spend a Friday.
me
Haha.
me
Maddy likes to nuzzle up in your nooks.
me
With Grant temporarily staying in the home office, I moved my computer into our bedroom so that I'd have a quiet place to get some work done for the remainder of Grant's stay.
me
Later that afternoon, I busted out my NeuroSky BCI headset...
me
After finishing up work in the morning, I had the afternoon free. Meredith and I decided to walk up Ave C...
me
Buds.
me
Even their t-shirts are good! They were my very first long-term client and really helped me launch my product consultancy! Thanks for an awesome ten months, everyone!
me
I like to fall asleep holding Maddy like a smash-nosed football. Haha.
me
Almost four hours after arriving and we still hadn't managed to ride a ride. FAAAACK!
me
Great Adventure, here we come!
me
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, GURJEET! I love you! We scored some ice coffees, walked up the street, scored our Zipcar...
me
Awww, buddies.
me
On Sunday night I went out dinner with Marcos! He and some friends were in town from Barcelona. Marcos and I had emailed for years but this was the first time we'd met in person. Great to meet you! (Only took me two years to post the photo!)
me
We had a nice relaxing evening of admiring the view.
me
Totally mesmerizing.

On our walk over to the reception, we ran into Bertl on his scooter and got a chance to wish him farewell!

Inside the church.

They had superhero-esque wetsuits! Me and Alex with our DM about to get wet.

...and encouraging shirt removal.
me
Mer snapped this great action shot of me getting wet!
me
We got up super early on Wednesday morning and walked down to the beach...
me
A little later that afternoon, we rented a scooter and drove over to...
me
Awkward waving / thumbs up!
me
...Bohol Bee Farm!

After another TWO HOURS on the boat, we took a car from Tagbilaran to Alona Beach and finally arrive a little past 1:30am. Our taxi driver took us to a few different hotels trying to find vacancy without much luck. Then he looked us up and down and said, I know a place that probably has vacancy if you don't mind a place that's a little....different.
me
On Monday morning we checked out of our hotel and got ready for another long travel day to Alona Beach on Panglao Island, the site of Aileen and Ryan's wedding at the end of the week! Here's me with a Buddha on the beach.
me
We decided to go out and explore the island culinary offerings and ended up finding a pizza place.
me
As we got further north, the bus cleared out until we were the only people left on it.
me
...make a new travel buddy! Like this sleepy little abuela who spent most of the bus ride bouncing her tiny snoozing noggin against my shoulder. Haha. Adorable.
me
Yay, travel buddies!
me
Spicy Thai food and girly drinks on white sand beaches are all things I like.
