...NEON CHARIOT of military might! We all sang songs...
grant
...right after they got off stage, Grant almost got off.
grant
Uh-oh! If you thought things were getting hot onstage...
grant
...(even better!) number two.
grant
Not one to disappoint a frenzied crowd, here's one. And...
grant
Grant hitting the stage also remarked the triumphant return of Chef! Yes! He sang the Darkness' I Believe in a Thing Called Love. (Which practically demands multiple David Lee Rothesque aerial maneuvers).
grant
Grant onstange trying to get the hang of the very unique "FrankDance."
grant
grant
Followed by Grant doing a lil Gn'R.
grant
And here's the re-enactment of Karen's birthday complete with Susan playing a traumatized onlooker. Let's get a closer look at this pic, shall we?
grant
...his balls for a change! Hahahah. Here's the co-operative happy version.
grant
Grant and Susan.
grant
In a totally crazy coincidence, later that night we ran into Steve Haise who is hands down the BIGGEST Van Halen fan we know (and maybe even in the world). He almost creamed himself when he heard where we'd been earlier that night.
grant
We got to the building in question and fucked around pressing all the apartment buzzers until someone finally buzzed us in (Holly Golightly style, boyeeee). We weren't positive the intelligence we'd gotten was accurate until we got into the lobby and saw this sticker on one of the mailboxes (I shit you not!). He even calls himself DLR. Fucking amazing.
grant
Oh my god. Sofa King funny. This pic actually gives the original a run for its money.
grant
After a few knocks, it was clear that no one was going to answer. We figured that maybe everyone was out on the balcony deck with DLR and they couldn't hear us. We decided to head up to the roof and see if we'd be able to get a vantage point of the party from there.
grant
"Oh! So solly! Robbah Deniro nah here. Only me: Chinee Grant!" BWONG!
grant
Hey, when did Bobby DeNiro show up at the party? You talkin' to me? You talkin' to me? Then who the hell else are you talkin' to? You talkin' to me? Well I'm the only one here. Who do you think you're talking to? Oh yeah? Huh? Ok.
grant
Each time, the shutter fired early. So while I didn't magage to capture Grant in all of his fully-spread glory (it really is glorious, by the way), I did manage to capture him making three of the best worst faces ever.
grant
Grant, the Fatty and me. We made it up to Sarah's rooftop just in time to catch the start of...
grant
Oh, so I forgot to mention. On the walk over to Sarah's, I ran into my friend Emily on the street who pointed out David Lee Roth's new two-storey apartment to me. I won't give away his exact address, but suffice it to say, one of the floors has a prominent balcony that overlooks a heavily foot-trafficked area of the Lower East Side). Anyway, she told me that according to rumor, DLR was having a huge Fourth of July party on his balcony. When I relayed this info to Grant and the Fatty, we all decided that we had no choice: we had to round up a group and attempt to crash it.
grant
...to hand out and shoot the shit.
grant
And then, just because he was there, Grant decided he wanted a photo of James Iha and his nuts together. Oh, the indignities of post-celebrity. Sorry, James.
grant
Grant (barely) holding up the GINORMOUS baby Jack. The kid's only six months old and he already weighs more than his two year-old sister.
grant
After dinner, the Cravens hopped a cab and headed back to New Jersey. (Thanks for dinner, guys!)
grant
Saturday morning, Grant and I headed down to Chinatown for a dim sum brunch at Mandarin Court.
grant
Grant and Xiomara.
grant
Too bad you think I'm kidding. I'll spare him the embarrassment of posting the other ELEVEN pictures he took.
grant
Now this is usually where Grant would take out his nuts and try to put them near my face...lucky for me, his vanity got the best of him and he instead took my camera and used it to take pictures of himself making "sexy faces."
grant
Tins, me and Grant.
grant
FLYING BRAIN!
grant
...his nutsack! Wooo! Let's hear it for the return of Wally Weirdnuts!
grant
Tins (wearing Grant's way too big for her hat) and Grant.
grant
On Wednesday afternoon, Grant and I met up with Carol to celebrate Bastille Day at some French hamburger joint on Ave A. (huh?)
grant
Then Grant entertained us with his amazing impression of a mime eating an ass. Yay, First Half of July!
grant
On Friday afternoon, Grant and I met up for lunch with Siege and Katie at TeaNY.
grant
Self Portrait: by Grant Stoddard.
grant
We took this picture of us both speaking with her and assured her that it'd eventually be posted on the site. So here's a big shout out to Grammy Pam! (Here's a pic of her from when we were in London last year! She's the one immediately to Grant's left!)
grant
On Saturday afternoon, Grant, Charlene (who just moved to NYC from London), Martin Greene (one of Grant's best friends from growing up in Essex who was in town visiting from London) and his wife Mary took the ferry across the water to Hoboken to BBQ at Stewart and Jeanette's new apt (who also recently moved to the States from London). Here we are getting ready to enter Stuart and Jeanette's fancy building.
grant
Yes! It's in its early stages but with a little bit more practice, she'll be pulling them with the best of us.
grant
But we did manage to pick up some doo-rags. Hahah.
grant
After he'd finished looking at Manhattan, Grant used Stuart's binoculars to hone in on something even more wondrous and majestic...
grant
Amy gave a call and it turned out she was nearby! So she stopped by for some late afternoon lounging. And what's that up there in the corner? Is that Leigh working on her "Get a load of this fugging guy!" face? Let's take a closer look shall we?
grant
And here's Grant making faces behind Emily's back.
grant
Grant opted for the plastic cup method...
grant
On Monday, Grant and I were bored out of our skulls. We went to K-mart to buy some towels and somehow ended up leaving with towels and a frosty 12-pack of Bud Lite cans. (WTF? I dunno, it just happened). I was like "Let's go to Tompkins Square Park and get drunk." Grant got all panicked and was like "We can't do that!" I was like, "We can't?" Grant looked taken back as he failed to come up with a good reason, and finally shrugged it off. "Ok, I guess we can. Let's go."
grant
Charlene listens in passive horror while Grant cracks up.
grant
...and then we drove our rent-a-van out to Queens for our second delicious Thai meal at Sripraphai.
grant
Sooooooo tasty. Happy Gay Pride Day everyone!
grant
...Grant and Rachel working hard to out-do their previous night's "performance."
grant
Grant and Rachel were all the way in the back seat...
grant
Around five, we decided to pack it up and head to the car.
grant
ChelseaBoy flexdown!
grant
Grant caressing the bellychain.
grant
After an hour in the sun, some of the (many) treats we'd purchased on the car ride out, especially the chocolately ones, had gotten gooey. Rather than having to squirt it out of the wrapper like toothpaste, Grant decided to chill that motherfucker out in the ocean to return it to a more solid state. (Mmmmmmm....delicious Fastbreak).
grant
Despite only getting a few hours of sleep, we managed to pick up the van and be heading beachward before noon. Here's me, Meredith, Grant, Rachel and David and Miye in the back! Rented van, wooooooo!
grant
Meredith, David, Grant, Rachel and Miye.
grant
Grant doing "The Molly."
grant
Okay, back to Misshapes. Here's Grant (earning bonus points for his Rolling Stone shirt prescience) Meredith (making a Mr. Magoo face) and Sarah "Wish She Didn't Have a Boyfriend" Harrison. (Just to clarify - that's me wishing, not her.)
grant
When Laura lamented missing out on the orange muscle-tee up close (Grant was sweaty and changed shirts after the show), he gave her a special admission ticket...to the GUN SHOW!
grant
Grant flirting with my future wife, Natalie (psst...Natalie, I want to make babies with you. If you're not interested in that maybe we could just practice making them. Email if you ever see this.) Bonus points to Jim for continuing to make the "get of load of this fugging guy" face. Hahaha.
grant
The show was really good, but Grant got in trouble for jumping around on stage too much (seriously) and so this was unfortunately his last show as rhythm guitarist in the band.
grant
Grant was wearing an orange muscle-T and pointed to the stage while doing a flex down every chance he got. "Yes, we'll be playing OVER THERE ON THE STAGE in a few minutes." Hahaha.
grant
Hahahaha. Grant executes a new move.
grant
Rachel and Grant were trying to get close to the hydrant, but the pressure was so great neither of them managed to within 20 feet before being knocked over or pushed back.
grant
I got there to find a fire hydrant open full-blast gushing water all over Canal Street.
grant
And your air guitar.
grant
Which was suprisingly empty. Sometimes you want a packed karaoke joint, but other times less-crowded is better because it means you get to monopolize the stage.
grant
And to practive your aerial manuevers.
grant
...Sid and Buddy karaoke to meet up with Chris the Greek and Grant.
grant
Chris enlightened the lingering audience members by accompanying Grant's last somg with some "traditional" Greek dance moves.
grant
If you look at how small Fatty looks in the background of this picture, you might conclude that his back patio is really long. In reality, the patio's only like 10 feet long - the optical illusion is a result of this being a photo of Fatty's much smaller brother, Andy (aka "Little Fatty).
grant
Saturday evening we all went over to Fatty's apartment for a back patio BBQ. Here's Amy White and Grant in the kitchen preparing the shish kabobs.
grant
And Lori showed off her "I'm a new mommy" juggz with the sultriest of smoldering stares.
grant
Higher!
grant
More of Grant's aerial shennanigans! Pretty high, right?
grant
"Hey, Fatty check out this one..."
grant
The Fireworks Go Up record is really, really good, but I've got to be honest with you. I was only there to see one thing:
grant
If you're looking to capture the jump-shots, you gotta shoot with an itchy shutterfinger. I saw movement and snapped figuring Grant was getting ready to launch into another big kick and instead managed to capture this totally awkward (sideway?) leg kick. Hahaha.
grant
...the craziest, highest rock n' roll jump kick I've ever seen in my life. If only DLR (who lives less than a block away, incidentally) could've been there to see it - he would've wept with joy knowing his heir apparent lives. (This is so wallpaper worth - click here for the hi-res version).
grant
Hahaha. The fact that Fatty and Grant are making eye contact make this "Back to the Future" moment even funnier.
grant
Aerial stunts get girls crazy-hot.
grant
...here he is at the peak! How fucking unbelievable is this picture? As soon as I clicked the shutter I knew I'd managed to capture something magical. Click here to download a full-size, high-resolution version. Because you know you want to set this shit as your desktop wallpaper.
grant
It has a crazy fast shutter and I can usually manage to capture two to four pictures per second with it. Here's Grant on the way up and...
grant
Ok, towards the end of the night, I switched back over to shooting with my fancy cam.
grant
Buddy, Grant and Candy.
grant
Grant and Julie.
grant
This shot's practically an ad for Pabst.
grant
Hahaha. Yep, that's definitely a Bon Jovi face.
grant
Danceparty.
grant
Lizzy Ironheart. (Hahaha. Bonus points to Grant for pointing at her iron heart necklace.)
grant
Yeah, I know you wanted a close up. How funny is Grant's face?
grant
Bah-bah-brained!
grant
Once Grant had "them" out, I said to Ed, "Hey, why don't you get down on one knee! That would make for a cute pic, right?" Hehehehe.
grant
On his way out, Ed was trying to be all smooth and kick it to Julie. Little did Ed know, while he was whispering sweet romantic nothings, Grant was behind him frantically motioning for me to get the camera out - because he'd gotten his balls out.
grant
Here's my failed attempt to catch him at the peak of a DLR kick - don't worry, they'll be plenty more of this later.
grant
Then Grant come on!
grant
Later that night we went to Fatty's apartment on St. Marks and had ourselves a little back-patio barbeque.
grant
Grant on the street afterwards posing with Fatty's new bike.
grant
I made the mistake of falling asleep and got royally brained by Grant (who gets extra points for braining me while also "showing stem." Steep.)
